Hi! Didn't know where else to post this. The last couple days, I have been exeriencing a great deal of throbbing discomfort in the end of my thumb. It is kind of red and swollen, and has heat to it like an infection. From around my nail over the top of my thumb, and all around the pad of the thumb. I even had to ice it last night to get to sleep it was bothering me so badly.

However, I've tried pouring peroxide over it several times and see no evidence of any broken skin or cuts that could've become infected, and the peroxide isn't really bubbling around my nail or anything. It's so tight and painful now I can't really tell where the pain originates.

The really odd thing is, I had the exact same symptoms on the forefinger of the same hand for 3 or 4 days. It got better, then my thumb started. I don't remember injuring them at all.....

Anyone had a similar experience?

At first I was thinking arthritis, but after reading your post it sounds more like an infection of some kind.

You should see a doctor. It could be an infection, (or maybe gout , which they can give you medications for). But you should really get it looked at if it's causing you that much pain and discomfort.

Could be allergic to something that got under the fingernail. I had this problem many years ago and decided to soak finger in a liquid anahistamine. Believe it or not, it worked.
