Hello!
I am going to see a surgeon in about 2 weeks to discuss implants. I would like to know your experiences. What questions should I ask? What do I need to know that surgeons don't tell you? Did you lose feeling in your breasts after surgery? Can you lay on your stomach now? Do you regret doing it or are you happy with the results? The surgeon is very reputable so I am not worried about that. Just would like some info on your personal experiences.
Also, what size where you before and after the surgery? I am not sure what size to go up to. I am an A cup now and would like to be a large B because I am afraid a C would be too large for my size (I am petite) and if they are too large then that could cause more problems, right?
Thanks!

Hi,
I had implants about 10 years ago and since had to have both redone because they firmed up and got very uncomfortable.I went from a b cup to a small d.I don't have the feeling in my right nip like I used to.I can't lay on my stomach either on a hard surface like the floor.I'm not trying to scare you off of having it done but you asked.I would do it again! That was a long time ago,now I'm sure they do things a lot different and they would not give you the trouble I had. Also sometimes your body just wants to reject them.My sister in law just had it done and they look great and she even breast feeds her twins! If it makes you feel better about yourself then go for it,just don't do it to please someone else(like your Husband, boyfriend, etc.)do it for you!! :D
Hope this helps a little!

Blazer...thanks for the reply! I am definitely doing this for ME and me alone. I guess more than anything I am not sure what size to go up to. Also, my gyno is against implants and tried everything to discourage me and scare me. It was ridiculous. I discussed it with several other doctors and they all said it was safe. She is just against against that makes women "sex objects". I felt like I was at a feminist convention, she didn't even get that I am doing this for MY self esteem. Also, do you know if implants have any MAJOR complications when it comes to breast exams? what do they have to do differently to women w/ implants than without them?

I had implants done 4 years ago, with a lift, the best thing I ever done! I went from a flabby B to an awesome DD!!! They look great.Go bigger than what you think, because once all the swelling goes away, you will wish you had.trust me! I had to go back for a second surgery to get my desired look, many women do.I do NOT have any feeling in certain parts of my breast, but I still do not regret it one bit...My gyno,a male, was against me having it done also!

Don't be scared! I know that I was and I tried to get as much info as I could before I did it. Some people scared me so much that I thought that i might not do it. Luckily, I had a friend who had it done a year before and she set me straight! It will be 2 years in April and I have never felt happier about any decision I've ever made...well, almost!

I went from a very assymetric A to a D. I am VERY happy with the result and I'm very glad that I went with the size that I did. I took photos of models and photos from before and after websites. I told the doc what I liked and what I didn't like. I'm 5'2", 94 pounds and I wanted to be a D cup! Obvioulsy, I wanted bigger than was safe to do on a first time patient, and I didn't realize how much implant was needed for what I thought I wanted. The doc said that he could get me to a C without risking serious problems, not to mention rippling. After the surgery, I thought that I was maybe a B cup and was kind of disappointed. Once I was able to try on clothes and bras, I was very pleased. I am actually a perfect 32D. The only bad thing is that I do have very very thin skin and I have some rippling on my left side (the implant had to be more overfilled in order to balance me out). It isn't visible, but I can feel it. The doc did warn me about that if I wanted to be big, so I'm not shocked or even upset about it. He did a great job deciding to stop where he did.

My result looks so natural that no one knows that they are implants. Even in a bikini, they have a very natural shape. My surgeon did a hell of a job evening me out. I look at my before and after photos and I start to get teary. I spent 28 years of my life feeling like a didn't look like a woman. My husband loved me, no matter what, but I felt very embarrassed wearing anything form fitting and forget swimwear! My physical insecurity wasn't disrupting my life, but I figured that if it was safe enough for me to do, then I wasn't going to live out my life unhappy with something that I could change.

Sorry for digressing!

To get to the point, though, the pain in the first week was kind of hard to gauge. I had vicodin to relieve the symptoms and boy, does it work! It was uncomfortable laying on my back, but you find that it is easy to get used to after the first 3 nights. I remember waking up one night, almost in a panic, wondering if I'd ever be able to sleep on my stomach again! That is how I have always slept! I assure you, after a few weeks, it is safe to sleep on you stomach again. I just started out with a few extra pillows under my head so that I wasn't smashing myself!

Mostly all of the feeling was back in 6 months, although I am a little hyper-sensitive on my left nipple. It's not bad at all, though.

Regular breast massage helps to keep them soft and breast self-exams take a little getting used to, but are otherwise the same as before. The mammo's that they do now are more fine tuned for women with implants, so nothing is missed.

BTW, it is not your gyne's job to judge you on implants, nor is it any doctor's job to judge you. They need only give you the facts, then support your decision. You are not a child, and you shouldn't be treated like one.

My gyne and internist are very matter of fact with me. They actually were very pleased with my result from a medical and cosmetic standpoint. They were happy for me because I was happy. It doesn't mean that they would've PRESCRIBED implants for me, but at least they were supportive and understanding!!!

One last thing, it is O.K. to want to be sexy! Everyone is so concerned about women doing things for men. Of course you should never have to do anything to keep a man's love! That's a no-brainer!! But, as far as I'm concerned, it is perfectly normal to want to look good and be attractive, as long as you put your health first. I can't see what is shameful about wanting to look feminine! I say GOOD FOR YOU! If you are courageous enough and you can spend the money, GO FOR IT!

SORRY SO LONG!
