In November I had a sygmoidoscopy and a polyp was removed. It was tested and found to be of a type that could develop into cancer, although at the time it was not cancerous. In January I had a colonoscopy and had another polyp removed. I'm 33 and wondering if this has happened to anyone alse around this age and did your doctor recommend anual exams?

Hi VirgoGuy, my cousin has had an annual colonoscopy since she was 31. We have both lost our Dads to colon cancer and her annual colonoscopy regularly turns up the "not cancer yet" form of polyps while my first one came back negative for polyps last summer.
If I had polyps, I would definitely sleep better if I had an annual colonoscopy. The prep is certainly "do-able" compared to risking colon cancer - A couple questions for you if you check back here...
Do you have any family history of colo-rectal cancer?
Has your doctor recommended an annual colonoscopy?
Keep in touch!

Hey virgo yes i have had what they call precancerous polyp!! Excuse my language but it scared the hell out of me!!!!!!! It was a hair from being cancerous. My dr. is doing a recheck in 6 months. It really depends on your dr. as for when he rechecks. My dr. is really concerned for me as for i am only 29 yrs old i dont even have family history that i know of for colon cancer! But i am known for polyps. Good luck 2 u!!!!If u have any ?s please reply ! I will try my best 2 help u out if i cant i am sure i can find out for u!!!!!! Smile

My mom is suffering from colon cancer that has since metastacized to the liver. I would have a colonsocopy every week if it meant saving me from what she has gone through. I had my first colonscopy. I took a pill called visicol (fairly new out) instead of drinking anything. It was easy! I also had the Dr. keep me awake during my exam as I wanted to make sure all was okay. The visicol made everything a piece of cake. Keep up on the colonoscopies!!!!!!!!
