Hi
I am new to the board, and need alittle insite to a colonoscopy...Already had a sigmoid and my doctor found a sm polpy. He told me the stem was fine, however I am waiting for the results of the biospy for the top of the polpy..I was told to make an appt with a gastro doctor. I can't believe the first appt. isn't till Aug 5..and that appt. is just to see him not for a procedure. I'm alittle nervous to wait that long..Anyone else have to wait that long? plc

I know how you feel. Waiting is the worst part of anything. I have colonoscopy next week. Then I will probably have to wait 2 or more weeks for a follow-up visit. I really do not know what to expect out this.

I guess we have to keep ourselves busy in the meantime.

Take care.

Sorry for that duplicate display. I thought it did not go through the first time so I clicked it again.

If you don't mind I wonder if you would tell me your age. I am in my mid-forties. My next question is:
Have you ever experienced any consistent discomfort about 2 inches to the left of the navel and and pain in the side or middle of the back at the same level?

I am not even sure if this is related to my origin problem that led me to the colonoscopy. I had that first procedure that you had with another gastroenterologist and he did not even bother to call me with the results and did not feel a colonoscopy was necessary. This was two years ago. I just started with this new doctor in early June and they scheduled me a colonoscopy for next Thursday the 8th. Then I will have to wait another two weeks for the results.

I am presently on lunch which is almost over so I will have to sign off. Hope to hear from you soon. Your followup is right around the corner, the 5th is that correct? Again , hope to hear from you soon.

Don't mind at all if you ask me my age 48. I went to the doctor for hemmorroid problems..Seeing I'm close to 50.He felt a sigmoidoscopy was needed. Waited 8 wks for that procedure, and when he did it he found a sm polopy(spelling). He biospy it (that took a week for the results) thank god it was neg, however now it has to be removed, also he doesn't know if there are any more polopys for once he found one he stopped the procedure. Now this was not my original problem, just an added one. As for pain or discomfort I am not having any in the areas you have stated. Aug 5 I am seeing the gastro doctor to talk to and to set up the appt. for the colonoscopy.(more waiting)My thoughts will be with you on Aug 8,as you have the procedure, and I will think of you also on Aug 7 as you spend a long time in the bathroom. Many friends have told me the colonoscopy is not bad, but the endless hours in the bathroom are no fun. If you like to read, I suggest a good book. Good Luck and Please write back to let me know how things went... plc

I'm going to see my doctor today to get a referral for a colonoscopy. In the last week I have had rectal bleeding, and while I know I have hemorrhoids, I am very concerned. My dad had colon cancer, his dad had colon cancer, and his grandfather had colon cancer. I'm 43 years old. My dad had the cancer at 53. Both my dad and grandfather survived their cancer with 5fu chemotherapy even though their cancers had spread. So at least I would know what treatment route to go if I do have it. My dad has also had the colonoscopies, and he assures me that there is nothing to it. Well, good luck everyone. Hope we all get good results.

To plc and 1dove

Just got back three hours ago from my colonoscopy. I was still pretty nervous as I always am even though I knew I would be sedated. The did not find any polyps although he discovered I have diverticulosis and the nurse at the hospital said he did a biopsy on or in the rectum. Not quite sure why. I am actually waiting on the nurse from his office to call me back regarding the reason for the biopsy. I did unforntunately feel some discomfort from the colonscopy even though I was sedated. My husband thinks maybe it was from the biopsy. My stomach is hurting alot to from too much air and gas which was caused by the procedure. My husband said he did not feel anything after. He had his procedure last month. Let me know how you both made out. Would be glad to hear from you both soon. Thank you.

To caymangirl,
Glad it is over for you, diverticulis(spelling)can be treated with diet and medication...You must have had and area in the colon that was inflamed, and the doc wanted to ck it out.(I think that was the reason for the biospy)I'll say a few prayers that your biospy is ok...I'm going in the end of sept. for the same thing.I understand your anxiety..I'm trying not to think of it,for it is 6 wks away..trying to get appt.early is not easy...My own doctor eased my mind about the outcome and procedure,However the gastro doctor,(he was very nice)made a point to tell me that seeing my biospy was neg,the type of polopy I have can turn easily to cancer..I agreed lets get it out of there, and hope there isn't any more.He said the sooner the better...First appt. Last fri of Sept...I hope nothing turns in the meanwhile. To think This all started with hemmorroids in MAY...Was the prep as bad as all say? PLC

What type of prep will you be using? I had to take the Fleet Phospho soda (lemon-gingerflavor) Believe me the lemon-ginger did not make up for it. The first glass which I took I was able to keep down. To be honest with you I am not good with liquids. I rather take something in pill form. The second glass which I took three hours later (8pm) was nauseating. Boy they put you in for a late appointment. I have to go back on Aug 26 for the follow-up. I actually came home this morning from work becuase my stomach was hurting me. I should have pushed going in. My prayers are with you too! My strategy is taking life one day at time. Try to focus on something positive in the meantime.

Hi caymangirl,
How did your results go? Hope everything turn out ok...To answer your previous question I have to take nulty,I do not think a flavor will help with the taste, but I'm going to pick cherry..I have been trying not to think about it,putting all my energy into work and family. It is helping. plc

Who manufactures the product and how many ounces do you have to take? I read some other posting that someone took it with white grape juice rather than water. Phospho soda unfortunately leaves a taste in your mouth even after dring a few glasses of water. The taste just stays that I why I got nausea after the second glass (3 hours later.)

I am going Monday, Aug 26th. Probably the biopsy would be okay. I am wondering now if he will take more tests like an upper GI endoscopy (which kind of scares me). I don't know really what to expect.

How is your Gastroenterologist is he or she very test happy. Actually it is pretty funny but most Gastroenterologist are mainly males. At least here in New Jersey. I would have preferred a female but this Doctor was recommended by my husband's GP and my husband likes him and recommended me to go to him.
This will be my second visit.

Unfortunately the other day I lost my job after 6 years. But I am pretty confident that I will get back in the job market. Actually since this happened I been kind of ingnoring my health.

Well hope to hear from you soon, take care. Hang in there!
