Have had this eye pain since beginning of December...aching, stabbing, sometimes so painful it makes me cry out.
Optician found nothing abnormal after test in December - glaucoma and field vision too - but pain is still there and we are in February!
Is it probably tension? I am currently having too high dose of thyroxine meds and am suffering from extreme tiredness Post menopausal too.

Any simialr experiences>

I have had eye pain, as well, for the last couple of months. CT scan okay, field vision ok. I'm wondering if it's sinus related or possible tooth related.

Hi scriv - I just read your post and was thinking you might want to see an ophthalmologist, NOT an optician. An ophth. would probably be able to give you a better idea about what's really going on with your eyes. Just a thought. Do your eyes hurt all the time, even when you're trying to sleep? Are your symptoms worse in the morning or at night? Do you think you might have damaged your cornea somehow? Hmmmm.... I hope you find out what's causing your problem. That's really frustrating when you don't know why you're in pain. Good luck!

Thank you for your kind replies. I am to be referred to the eye clinic where I presume I will see an opthalmologist - but those tests don't lie, do they?

There is a general discomfort there all the time, as if there is something in it, but at unpredictable times there can be a shooting or stabbing pain or ache. There is a 'nervy' and sometimes numb feeling around the whole eyeand a mild headache. Sometimes the eye twitches.

I do wonder if stress is an issue tho - and to do with the nerve, a bit like migraine.

Hi again - that's good you'll be seeing an ophthalmologist. When you were tested previously, do you remember if they checked your eyes for something called keratitis (corneal inflammation)? It's just that the symptoms you describe sound like what I had about a year and a half ago. I had a stabbing, sharp pain in my eye - it was so painfull that I ended up in the emergency room! I had a massive headache, too. And I am definitely NOT the kind of person that goes running off to the hospital anytime I feel pain. In fact, that was only the 2nd time I had ever been in an emergency room in my entire life (the first was when I knocked out all my front teeth! :)) My point is, the pain was absolutely unbearable and I really needed help. I got diagnosed with "keratitis of unknown etiololgy", meaning that they didn't think it was of viral or bacterial origin, but probably caused by dry eye and blepharitis. I think that there might be more mild forms of keratitis, i.e. keratitis sicca, and maybe that's what you're suffering from? Are your eyes ever dry? I just thought I'd mention this because you said you were postmenopausal and apparently keratitis sicca is not uncommon when it comes to changes in hormone levels. Maybe this isn't your problem, but it's just something you might want to look into. I'm sure when you go to see the ophth. he/she will help you get it all sorted out. Okay, hope you feel better soon!

Jen
