View Full Version : IS THIS COLON CANCER?

OK...here it goes:
I noticed a change in bowel movements in early August. I had to go more frequently and my stool was slightly thinner and lighter in color and very easy to pass. Well, I left for school in September and by mid Sept. this all changed. I all of the sudden would go 2 days without having a bowel movement. I wasn't in pain, just didnt' have to go. When the time came when I did, it came out like it did before. It was easy to pass, kind of "loose" (not too hard) and VERY slightly thinner. It's now the end of October and the same crap is going on. I've gone to my doctor 3 times now, and each time she said it wasn't a big deal, just a change in diet (bullcrap). The other day I had a bowel movement with bright red blood in it, went to the doc and shes FINALLY having me take a fecal occult blood test. Do all of these symptoms sound like colon cancer? I need to know what it is. I'm going insane and I'm letting these bowel problems take over my life. Can anyone relate to what I'm saying and try to give me a lead as to what's wrong with me? THANKS!!

Tell the Dr. you want a colonoscopy. I just had one & they found something that we weren't even looking for. I also had bleeding & rather irregular bowel habits. It turns out that it wasn't "just a hemmoroid" after all. I've found out lately through my own medical experiences that we, as patients, have to be more demanding & take responsibility for our own care. Dr's will try to blow you off, especially if you're young. If you feel something isn't "right" or something's worring you, demand better health care, you deserve it!

I agree with the other guy.... You have to demand a colonoscopy. The doctors kept telling me that I could wait 5-6 months. That's rubbish. They don't think somebody young could get cancer, but sometimes they do. It probably isn't, but get it checked out.

You will never know what it is until you get it checked out. I agree with the other posters, get a colonoscopy. I had a colonoscopy last month and it was a simple and completely painless procedure. The worry was worse than the procedure itself. And now, after having my colonoscopy, I no longer have to worry that I have colon cancer. If you do have a problem, the sooner you find out and get it treated the better.
