lindsayWV 02-14-2005, 04:12 PM We've just started trying to get pregnant. Not sure if I am pregnant now or not. I just finished ovulation. We have a hottub and I've heard that they could be bad for the baby's development in the early stages. I'm wondering if I should stay out of the hottub completely or if I would still be safe to use it the next 2 weeks. I'll know in the next 2 weeks if I am prenant or not. Basically, I'm wondering if any damage can be done this early in a pregnancy. Anyone have any knowledge on this?
Soulcatcher 02-14-2005, 04:30 PM They say to avoid it all together while pg for a couple of reasons that I know of...one is because the air and water can go up into the vagina causing bacterial infections and the other is because of the temperature of the water. It can make the inside of you hotter and that is not good for the baby, they should maintain a certain degree and not fluctuate that severly in temperature. Hope I helped.
ChaiT 02-14-2005, 04:45 PM I agree, stay out of it completely. Raising your body temp above 102 degrees F for very long can affect development of the embryo or fetus, especially in the early months. You might not get this hot anyway, but 9 months of worrying about it is a long time.
jessi0198 02-14-2005, 05:32 PM Even though you just finished ovulating, I would stay out of the hot tub even this early. The temp and the bacteria could possibly cause problems with implantation. And it is especially important to stay out once your pregnancy is confirmed.
hugs28 02-14-2005, 05:56 PM I kinda disagree, I think you should ask your doc about it. I have a jettub, not a hot tub, but same difference. As long as you can change the temp of your tub to no more then 100 degrees you are fine. My doc told me I can take all the baths in my jet tub I want, anytiime during pregnancy etc... I would say, don't sit on a air jet lol, cause that will cause the air and bacteria to go up there, but use it with caution. Like I said I would ask your doc and see what they think about it, I am just voicing what my doc told me. Good luck
lindsayWV 02-14-2005, 06:39 PM Unfortunately, I did get into the hottub just once last week. It was probably one of two days after I had ovulated. With this being the first month that we are trying to get pregnant, I just didn't think about not getting into the hottub until the next day. t was at 102 degrees. Should I be worried?
jessi0198 02-14-2005, 06:53 PM If you turn out to be pregnant, I would not be worried about affecting the baby, as the egg wasn't even implanted into your uterus yet. And if you aren't pregnant, it would be hard to say that it was because you got in a hot tub. I would say just relax and that you have nothing to worry about. Good luck getting a BFP!!!!
lindsayWV 02-14-2005, 06:56 PM Oh, thank you for those encouraging words. And you can believe that I won't be in the hottub again!
jmcummins3 02-14-2005, 08:02 PM If you just ovulated, the egg has not implanted and is most likely not affected. With that being said, if it is a hot tub where you cannot control the temperature of the water, you should avoid using it again while pregnant. If it is one of those Jacuzzi bathtubs that you fill yourself with bathwater, just make sure the water is not too hot and you can use it (ask your doctor first). They even have those in the LDR room at the hospital I am delivering at, and I've also heard that they are fine.
cattieos 02-14-2005, 09:51 PM Those ones you fill with water yourself can also be cleaned between each use, and the water is fresh each time, which helps reduce the bacteria. Also a lot of bacteria flourish at warmer temps, like in a hot tub that stays filled. I personally dont' like them at all, so I don't have to worry about giving them up, but i have heard that it is dangerous.
