Hi everyone. Was referred here by the thyroid board.
I've been Hashi's/hypo for 30 yrs. did ok until about 5 yrs ago. After going from Dr to Dr I'm seeing one now that started me on Cortef today. I'm on Armour and Synt. and still suffering many hypo probs. My question is what can I expect on Cortef in general ? I'm really struggling with constipation, dry skin, hairloss and weight gain and fluid retention. The last thing I want or need is more fluid retention and weight gain. I know the theory behind cortef but I just can't get past the cortisone weight gain/fluid retention side effects when on higher doses. I'm starting out at 15 mg of Cortef and I'm so fearful of weight gain. Anyone with experience....good or bad... with Cortef would be appreciated.

I still have so many hypo symptoms and suffer from a lot of inflammation problems. A mosquito bite can send me to the emergency room. I also have graves eye dis. in one eye only.
the Dr. thinks my being mid-range in cortisol may be why my thyroid meds may not be working properly. I'm just so afraid of weight gain so I wanted to hear from others being treated with Cortef to see how they did.
These boards have been so informative and everyone so very kind for sharing info and helping us newbies understand all of this. thanks again,
