I'm hoping someone can help me with my problem. The first time I had hemmoroids was about six years ago and I seem to get them several times a year. Sometimes they are minor, lasting only a few days and not being painful but other times are worse. I eat a good diet. Plenty of water, lots of vegetables (broccolli, romaine lettuce, peas, beans), nuts, whole wheat bread, fruits. Rarely eat fast food or potato chips and the like. The worst part is that I'm only 31 years old and I'm in good shape. I exercise 3-4 times a week and am not overweight. I like to lift weights but I stop when this happens to not strain my body but it becomes frustrating. After doing a search on the internet I've come across "review" sites but, not surprisingly, the products that are reviewed highest are advertised on there site so I don't know if they work or not. Does anyone know anything about Avitrol? I use Prep-H and it seems to help but often times it will take weeks. It's depressing because I sometimes feel like I'll have this for the rest of my life. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks

I would see your doctor and make sure it is hemmroids, and not a fissure. I thought I had a hemmroid for years, until I found out the hard way, that it was a chronic fissure with a "sentinal skin tag" -basically built up scar tissue.
Do you ever get bleeding or tearing? Does it burn?
In any case, I would eliminate the nuts, and try some stool softener for a couple weeks. If it is hemmroids, there are some new treatments out there. I heard about one on the t.v. last night, which is an in-office procedure, and you are back to work the same day!
worse come to worse, you can have hemmroid surgery, but it is a TOUGH recovery. I would try everything before that.
Remember that hemmroids have very little to do with your weight. Some people are prone to them, because of excess pressure in the colon (tightness). Same thing with fissures. I'm 170 pounds at 6'1, and I have terrible problems with these -I even had to have surgery.
The fissure surgery is a lot easier than the hemmroid surgery, but the recovery will still take 3-6 weeks at least, provided you don't have a set-back. Sometimes it can take months to feel 100%. I'm not familiar with Avitrol.

chiggins,
Thanks for your advice. There is no bleeding and there is pain but not exactly a burning sensation. I think I will see my doctor. I've had one lanced before. I take it this isn't surgery. What do they do in the surgery?

sounds like you doctors are on top of it. The surgery is a complete removal of the hemmroids, and it is a painful recovery.
It's good you don't have any bleeding, or major pain. So it's not a fissure.
re-post the question on the bowel disorders board. There are a bunch of people that have had this surgery, and they can help you out. They can also give you diet and medicine tips.
