For about four years now, I've been seeing these clear "worm-like" structures in my eyes. Of course, when I blink my eye and look another way they tend to move away. Are these floaters? For so long, I thought I had a rare parasite living in my eyes. What causes these things, layman's terms please!

Those are most definitly floaters. It is competely harmless and very common as long as its not a retinal detachment and you say you have had them for years so I highly doubt that is the case. you could get yours eyes checked to be 100 perent but your probubly fine. I have had them for about a year and im 19 and my eyes are completly healthy. They can be extreamly annoying but you get used to them for the most part. So other then being annoying they are normal and harmless.

Hi there,
I went to the eye doctor last week for the same thing. I have had them for about 5 years. She checked for retinal detachment which scared me to death. Turns out that's not the case and couldn't really explain why I had them. They are annoying! Do you have any other physical symptoms?

No, no other symptoms. Just these stupid worms in my eyes! It seems they show up when it's sunny day or if I'm in a lot of light -- like a computer screen. I really hate them. I wish it was due to some vitamin deficiency but apparently not. I just hope those wormy b-stards don't multiply!

Floaters they are !!! They are bits of membrane that detach them selves and float inside the eye. What you see is the light reflecting of them. They are not serious unless they change or you start getting flashes of light. I also have them in one eye and they are a b*** nuisance ! You may be lucky you live in America ( I don't ) as I am told they can now, in some cases laser them there. If they are really bad they can be operated on, but I believe Doctors are not keen to do it, as it is quite high risk. N.A.H.
