Hi there
I would really appreciate someone's advice! I've been prescribed citalopram for the first time (10mg), and I'm really worried as to whether it will make me gain weight. Has anyone noticed this side effect while taking it?
Thanks ;)

upset stomach
diarrhea
vomiting
stomach pain
drowsiness
excessive tiredness

dry mouth

Hi, I have been on citilopram for 12months and have gained around 24 lbs. I am in the process of coming of these now as I feel like I dont care about anything anymore. At least being depressed was a real emotion, unlike the hazy half life that I am living in now. all the problems I went on the drug to cure have been replaced by other problems, equally, and sometimes more distressing than the original ones. I have been cutting down in these drugs for several weeks and stopped taking them on monday. Dispite feeling like I am trapped on a spinning chair with a huge hangover and a fire alarm strapped to my head (rely does feel like this) I am looking forward to getting the weight off and getting a sex life back, this is the only thing keeping me going! angelgran

I was on citrofram for 8 months and lost weight. I am now on Effexor Xr and have gained a few pounds but the doctor thinks I needed to so not worried yet. I work out and run but have found with effexor I have no zip to do anything.

Dear angelgran:
It sounds to me that your doctor isn't really in close communication with your problems. Is he an M.D. or a psych? I have found my psych regularly changes my meds according to how I am when I take them. You don't seem to be getting such personal help. Can this be an area for improvement?
Good Health, xpax

Its been about 4 months now that I have been on citalopram and I have lost weight. Its the first time I have taken an antidepressant that I have lost some weight on. There are some drawbacks for myself personally though, I do feel tired a lot and have to push myself to not allow myself to feel too sleepy. Other than that I believe that this ssri has been helpful in balancing depression and anxiety. Sometimes I consider getting back on Lexapro because I did not feel so tired on it. Good luck, let me know how it works out for you! Thanks for letting me share my experience.

I have been on Citalopram since Dec 07, since then I have put on about 20 pounds, when I went for my physical last week my doctor was very concerned about the weight I had put on, she has now switched me back to effexor which I was on previously for 6 years and doubled the dosage, I can already feel a difference in the fact that once I'm full I stop eating, but when I was on the citalopram just on its own, I would stop eating until I felt like I was sick.

I would like to hear more about your Lexapro experience. I am on my 4th day. Why did you switch?
