I have a question about this. I haven't started using the pill yet, but if I start according to the first day or first sunday starts in the instructions, I will get my perdiod during my spring break and so I want to start a week later to delay my next period, but since this is my first month on the pill, will it change the effectiveness as birth control? I've read about taking extra pills to delay menstruation when you have already been taking it for a while, but not in the first month. thanks if anyone knows.

It might be hard to delay your period the first month on the pill just because your body isn't yet used to the hormone, there is an increase in the chance of spotting and break through bleeding. You also want to make sure you go on a monophasic pill if you want to skip periods.

It's not wise to start a week later than instructed. You're to start on your period because this is when hormone levels are at their lowest.
The best that you can do is TRY to skip your period, assuming that you are prescribed a monophasic pill. If not, you're out of luck.
You would have had your period anyway, assuming that you didn't start the pill.
