I am 6ft male with a medium frame. For the longest time I have been trying to get back into waist size 34 pants. My start weight was 202 and my goal is 185. After 4-5 weeks of trying, I reached it today.

I have limited my caloric intake to about 1200 calories/day. I have cut out a lot of the snacks and exercise 5 days a week.

But, the most important thing I have done is stop eating before I go to sleep at night. Prior to losing weight, I would eat a snack (ice cream, cake etc) before I went to bed. I now do not eat past 7pm. I do not know why this has made such a difference, but it has. I am really proud of myself. I feel like a different person: more energy, confidence, and motivation.

I hope this helps someone.

ive been trying to do that too, but i just get so hungry before i go to bed. i usually go to bed around 1, so i try not to eat after 10 pm. by midnight my stomach is growling and it actually hurts cuz its so hungry. did you encounter this problem when you first started?

I think it depends when you go to bed. Monkey arms if you go to bed at 1 and eat your last snack at 10 PM that's OK. I would say make the cut off 2-3 hrs before you go to sleep. Sometimes, I have no choice but to eat an 8:00 dinner cause of my kids, but I don't worry about it because I go to bed 11:30. Also sometimes I have no choice but to weight train at night and therefore have to eat something after that to prevent the muscle from being catabolized. So you really have to look at the whole picture.

The first few days were the worst. But at this point it has become part of my daily routine and I really do not think much about it.
Good luck

thanks for this post. my weight loss had been slowing down and i tried not eating last night before bed and BAM, the weight started moving.

Im on a 1400 cal diet, and would usually consume 200 or so cals about 2 hours before bed. Now i cut myself off about 4 hours before bed.

I do find your stomach starts to growl. But what I do is ill have a tablespoon of raspberry jam (35 cals) and that seems to give the body what it wants. Not sure if the body is looking for sugar or what, but that little bit of jam seems to work (its sweet, so its almost like eating candy - like a reward at the end of the day.)

Anyway, I'm going to keep this up and see how the next few weeks go. I've lost 30 pounds so far (just another 15-25 to go), so i'm slowing building in more and more techniques to avoid dealing with the dreaded weight loss plateaus.

Thanks for the post.

If my stomach starts growling before I go to bed, I take a fiber supplement and drink a big glass of water. It really really helps!

I've been trying for the longest time to shed this weight. In the past I have exercised until I almost collapsed, starved myself and tried just about every other diet.

For some reason my body's metabolism likes to store calories during periods of inactivity (ie. sleep). Although the first week of my current "diet" was a shock to my system (mainly due to not eating after 6-7pm) I am now acclimated to the adjustment.

Now that I am at my goal weight, I am going to focus more on non-cardio activities like weight training. My advice is to try and find something that keeps you busy and prevents your mind from thinking about food.

Try drinking a 12 oz glass of water with a little apple cider vinegar and some slenda sugar with cinnamon. drink this 3 times per day before meals. you will slowly lose weight and curbs the appetite some. :)

Don't you think 1200 kcal is a bit little for an active 6ft male? I'm only saying, but you could have lost this weight more slowly, and steadily at say 1600 calories a day... You have been putting you metabolism down a lot I'm guessing, and your chances on yoyo-ing seem pretty high to me. But then of course, who am I to judge?

Just wanted to offer som eavice about the late night eating thing...
I worked with a nutritionist who said that it really does not matter when you eat. Eating beofre you go to bed isn't going to make you lose weight less quickly- it's WHAT you eat beofre you go to bed. Your body definitely slows down at night but it will burn the same amount of calories throughout the day.
According to her, your body will just burn that off the next day when your metabolism is at its peak. Energy in=energy out regardless of what time of day you eat.
Just skip the ice cream and cake and go for fresh fruit or yogurt or something less fatening.
Hope this helps!

I don't know if I believe that or not. I've read and heard too many things to the contrary.

I have heard otherwise as well, but someone who is trained in nutrition would have a better knowledge of whether its true or not. I think that eating before bed wont make you GAIN weight, and you probably would lose quicker if you didnt eat before bed, but your body still burns those calories off. The trick is always to burn more than you eat, right, so does it really metter if it is at 830 pm or 830 am?
I agree that it is better to eat more during the day to jumpstart your body, but eating at night isnt going to make you gain weight.
Does that make sense?
