Hi, I'm a 16 year old that was diagnosed with add about a year ago. I've been on strattera for the whole time and have had every side effect in the book, but now I'm fine andI love it. If anyone has any questions about strattera experiences, I wouldbe happy to help.

 Brittany, my daughter was placed on Straterra and has been on it a little over 2 weeks now. First side effect was while at school she said she was sitting at her desk and just all of a sudden felt like crying. Few days later she says that she has headache and stomach after she eats lunch. Can you relate? How long did it take for these side effects to get a little easier? Did you have trouble being emotional at the beginning? Any information would be a blessing, mb

Well, I can definatly relate to the nausea. For the first few weeks, I felt sick to my stomach every morning after I took my meds. I never ate much breakfast because I was always in a hurry in the mornings, but after I started talking it with a bowl of cereal, it went away. I don't know when your daughter takes her medicine, but if she doesn't take it with food, that could definatly be the problem. As for the mood swings, I had those too. Never knew when they would happen but, I would get so sad and emotional for no apparant reason. It was awful. That didn't start with me until about two months after I had been taking it. Eventually it went away on it's own. Thank God, my mom was about ready to disown me. Not really, but she just didn't understand what I was going through. Now I'm just about side effect free and doing much better in school. I guess it just takes your body a little while to get used to it. If you or anyone else has any more questions I'm happy to help.

Hi Brittany:)

My daughter was also recently put on Strattera for ADHD. She's been on medication ever since she was small. First Ritalin, then Adderral, now Strattera. She's only been on it for about two weeks and she is pretty moody and tired. I saw you say that you were moody, but were you also tired too? What other side effects did you have?

Thanks,
Chantel

Someone said that I should try giving my daughter her Staterra at night time. Hopefully this will do the trick, I'll post later and let you guys know how it goes. mb

Chantel2003, as for the tiredness, I only had problems with that for the first few days on it. It went right away after that. I also had a loss of appetite about 5 months into it which eventually gave me fatigue problems but that went away too. For me side effects came in waves, each passing and sometimes leaving another one behind. My bod had adjusted to it and now it's a Godsent.

I was wondering about this too. My daughter also said that she sweats a lot in the morning because she takes it then. I'm wondering if taking it at night would be better. Let us know how it goes. I'm really curious.

Thanks,
Chantel

Hello again:)

Thank you so much for the information. Any information on this medicine is greatly appreciated. I am also glad you are doing well on it now:) I will keep you all updated on my daughter. So far, she is still tired and a little moody, but she told me today that she is concentrating better and remembering things better too. Hopefully it gets better.

I still give my daughter her med in the morning. We have moved up to 40mg. She's been on that dose for three days now. Yesterday she had to stay home from school with a terrible stomach ache. I'm guessing it's the Straterra. She does seem to be calmer on this med. I'll keep in touch. Lets share with each other, we'll figure it out! mb

I just received a phone call from my daughter's teacher. She was rude and smart-allic to her. She said she also did this last week. My gosh, I'm a nervous wreck. Is this the Staterra???????? Please, Anyone, have you ever heard of Straterra making a person more aggressive? Defiant?

It didn't really makeme more aggressive, but little things would cause me to get into fights with my mom and that's wierd because the two of us almost always get along great. That was about three months or so into it. It wasn't that i was being agressive, I was just mad. Ask her why she was acting that way. Was it out of anger, or just out of no where. Let me know what she says.

I'm not sure if it is the Straterra or not, but I would say that any increase in this type of medication could give some symptoms until the body has adjusted to it. I am on Lexapro, which is an anti-depressant for my panic attacks and Straterra is kind of like an anti-depressant too, and I know for me, when my dose was upped, I got aggitated and moody a little. It didn't last long, but it did happen. Talk to her doctor and see if he/she thinks it could be the medicine. I wouldn't give up on it quit yet though, unless she is getting way out of control.

Did you let her teacher know that she was on this medicine? They all need to know so that they can be easier on her in the future. Let her principle know too.

My son was on Adderoll and had terrible moods and was very hateful. I took him off and put him on Strattera. I now feel like I've gotten my son back. He is happy, doing much better in school, and has had no noticeable side effects. He is 13.

As a parent that has constantly struggled with the medicine issue, I now feel like I have a little piece of mind.

I am considering Strattera for my 8 y/o boy. He is on Wellbutrin 150mg 2X daily but is having trouble concentrating still. He was on a stimulant at first and was unable to sleep and lost weight he couldn't afford to lose etc. I am concerned about aggression having read in previous posts that boys in particular became more aggressive as the dosage was increased. I am very concerned about stomache/head aches and sleepiness.

My daughter has now been on Strattera for over a month and at first she had a few side effects. Well, she just got her report card and ALL of her grades have been brought up. I was so happy:) She has never did this well before. She even tells me that the medicine is helping her remember things. She's never told me that before with any other medication. She still has a little aggravation in the evening, but it is getting better.

I have to say that so far, I am impressed. This really makes me happy inside because I knew all along that she was smarter. Her teachers are even amazed.

P.S.- This is just my story. Not everyone reacts the same way. I just had to let everyone know a good side to Strattera. And please always talk to your doctor before putting children on any drug.

I recently found out that my boyfriend was on Strattera. I dont really know what to think about the whole thing. I was wondering what happens on the days that you dont take it or forget to. Is there a huge change in attitude? What should I watch out for if anything. MDC

Brittany,
My 7 yr. old is on Concerta and Strattera after we added the strattera, I think Jan this yr. he developed a tic. where he picks at his fingers CONSTANTLY. It's to the point he has one so infected he may lose the nail. His teacher thought he had glue on his hands the way he was picking she says it distracts him to the point of not being able to work or get his attention.
Did you have this side effect and how long did it take to go away? I'm ready to pull him off the Strattera at this point because of it. He's also not his normal self, now he doesn't seem to enjoy anything where before if stimulated enough he did.
It's such a catch 22 he participates now where he didn't before (school, boy scouts, church) but he still isn't himself. I don't what to do I'm at a loss.
his dose is Concerta 18 mg a day(down from 36)
Strattera 10 mg a day (down from18 mg)
On the orginal doses he was lethargic and a Zombie lost 9 lbs in 2 months(he didn't have it to lose really) Still doesn't have much appetite but he seems to be maintaining.
thanks,Debby

Hi:)

I can only tell you what happens when my daughter skips her medication. Nothing really happens that is bad. She sometimes gets headaches, but she usually goes back to her normal self. I say "normal" meaning, she is very forgetful when off of the medication and her grades usually go back down. Of course, this usually takes her being off of it for a few days. I try to remind her as much as I can to take her medication and I don't think she's ever gone more than two days of missing it. Her grades have gone up dramatically and she just may have A/B honoroll on her next report card. I haven't seen good grades like these since she was younger. She is 15 now.

I also want to stress that Straterra should be taken on weekends too. My daughter's doctor told her not to skip weekends because she would be starting all over on Monday, like she would be starting from scratch all over again. She would have to wait a few days for the medication to get back in her system again.

I've never seen a change in mood when my daughter skips her medication, but she does have a change in mood while on it. She gets a little aggitated about an hour or two after taking it. That's the only symptoms I see so far. Also, make sure your boyfriend takes bloodwork while on this medication to make sure it doesn't do damage to his liver.

Thanks that helps me a lot. I was afraid that there would be a huge change if he were to not take it. I'll have him go to the doctor as soon as i can because he hasn't been to one in a long time. Thanks again
