View Full Version : Do I need to see a Doctor?

 I threw by back out last Wednesday. I went to see a chiropractor who helped but did not alleviate my pain. I started reading about herniated disc's online and decided that's what I had due to a bad bed with no support. SO, I started icing my back regularly and taking Advil to reduce the swelling. I sleep on the floor on my back with my knees propped up and my head on one pillow. In just one day I noticed a difference. As long as I don't sit at the desk I seem to be doing better. I got a brace to sit at the desk with and can only sit for a brief period of time and then I go lay down and the pain subsides.

My problem is, I can't get in to see a doctor until next Wednesday which will be 2 weeks after the initial injury. I don't know if I should pay to go see a doctor and get all the tests or just continue what I am doing since it seems to be working. I ordered a new bed which should be here tomorrow. I'm afraid the doctor will tell me to do just what I am doing and I will have to pay a lot of money for that advice. My question is do I need to see a doctor or should I stick it out and see if I get better? Thank you in advance for your advice and recommendations. Also, what can I do to strengthen my lower lumbar so this doesn't happen again?

My initial thought would be, better to see one and not have a problem, than to not see one and end up with a bigger problem down the road b/c of not getting the needed attention. did that make any sense?? Backs should not be messed with, it is easy to ignore it and easy to make worse. I wish you well, and if I were you I'd see the dr. That is your choice though as always. Let us know what you decide to do. Oh, can't hurt to keep doing what you are doing also.

i agree with mel...you are focusing on what hurts, what the possible cause may be, and are thinking outside the box for solutions.

i would try all the medical options, too...you name it, i'd see it. diagnosis first, then treatment though. i wasted 2-3 years trying to get treatment for things i didn't know i had.

keep plugging away...you seem to be on the right track.
