You have to wait until the uterus has returned to normal size (so that it can hold the IUD), which takes about 6-8 weeks.

U have to wait 4-6 weeks after delivery. I'm 17, and the MIRENA put in at my 6 week check up. Ive had it a little over a year so far and its the best bc ive ever had. No side effects, no period, no weight gain. its great!
