I was born with a congenital cataract in 1975. Of course, back then they didn't have cataract laser surgery so doctors took the entire lens out of my right eye. My right eye is smaller than my left (some people say they never detected it) and darker (I have brown eyes.) Is anyone out there with this same problem? Every opthamologist I see say the same thing. Well, you're used to it, why screw it up with a lens replacement? Which is probably true. The only thing I hate is cosmetically. I've always been self-conscious about it and I've tried contacts but I hate it.
Please, I hope there's someone out there with this same dilemma. It would be nice to talk to someone with the same thing.

Well can't say I have that problem. But I will say I had my lenses removed when I was an infant as well. But they took both of them so....I don't have any color distortion or anything.
Personally I wouldn't mess with lense replacement....for me, I just find that a very scary and unsure thing (though I haven't researched it) I'd be terrified to be worse off afterwards than I am now :)
Good Luck with whatever you decide :)

That's interesting that your optician wasn't up for a lens replacement. I am considerning prelex surgery at the moment where they remove your natural lens and put a contact lens in it's place. My optician reckoned it was an OK proceedure.

I suggest first going to a couple of opthalmologists for opinions. If it's more risky than the outcome would be worth, they will tell you.
Be sure you let them know how you feel about the cosmetic end too -- that is a valid concern.
Then, maybe someone will respond here who has had it done.
My sister and I both have "early onset" cataracts in the centers of our lenses. We've lasted to age 50, but it's getting difficult to read and drive -- still we are both hesitant to do anything yet since the industry is still changing so much.
