View Full Version : Reactions to a Crown???

Maybe it is just a coincidence, maybe not. Hopefully someone can shed some light for me.
I had a gold crown put in the 1st week of December 2003. Around the 1st of Jan I started getting Dizzy spells, weird sensations thru my whole body, tingling in my face, arms chest. Chest pains etc. It was severe enough I was off work almost 3 months, and once went to ER thinking of a heart attack. I have been to a cardiologist with all of the heart tests done, nothing. Next neurologist, head ct, MRI, eeg nothing. Chest x-ray, spiral ct of chest. They all have been able to tell me what it isn't, but to this day nobody can say what it is.
I may be grasping at straws at this point, but has anyone ever heard of any reactions to a gold crown?? I have told every doctor about this starting shortly after the crown was done, they dismiss it and barely acknowledge the question. To this day about every couple weeks I get this mediciney taste around the crown, assume it is from the cement. I told the Dentist about 6 months after this started and he too dismissed even the fact that I had the medicine taste in my mouth. I still get occaisional symptons today, but rarely a dizzy spell.
I may jusy be crazy, but if anyone has heard of such a thing please respond.

Thanks

If you have mercury-silver dental amalgams (called "silver" fillings by a lot of dentists), you could have some additional galvanic action, which could cause you problems. This is created by having gold fillings mixed in your mouth with mercury fillings in different teeth. This gold filling or gold crown causes the mercury to leak out faster. You can read about this from many sources.

The controversy about mercury fillings still continues, but it is recognized that some people are more sensitive to these metals than others. Unfortunately scientists are still learning so much about this, that they just don't have all the answers. That's why you may find that the doctors you are seeing can't find anything wrong. How many of them are looking at metal toxicity?

I recovered from my headaches, backaches, chest pains etc. after I had my mercury-silver dental amalgams replaced with porcelain fillings. There are thousands of people like me.

Anyway, I can't say if this applies to you, but I thought I would give you some information so that you could research this some more.

I honestly don't believe in Gold Crown causing ANY concerns. If you had any reaction to ANY part of gold alloy, it would manifest locally first ( as in gum irritation and stuff like this). Check out your health, but crown placement was just a coincedence.

I disagree with your dismissal of what ther person called "galvanic" action. What they mean is electrolytic which is electrical action caused by dis-similar metals.

All i can say to you everything you posted is..... your wrong.

what are the symptoms of this electrolytic action?

don't buy into that. instead seek real medical advice and consider an infection as the offending agent.

Real factual information is that mixing gold crowns or gold fillings next to mercury-silver dental amalgams significantly increases the leakage of this mercury. All one has to do is read the scientific studies which has demonstrated these facts.

The saliva is a good natural electrolyte, in which small amounts of electric current travel between the gold material and the mercury-silver dental amalgams. Basically with these metals in your teeth, you have a battery delivering microamps of electricity.

Mercury, tin, and silver from mercury-silver dental amalgams can be seen as amalgam tattoos in various tissues as a result of this current. Also there is a concern that these currents produced in the mouth may interfere with the natural central nervous system. Many studies are on-going, so recognize there may be no best answer at this time. Also there are so many variables, like the type of amalgam a person has. For example, high-copper mercury-silver dental amalgams leak much higher amounts of mercury. Now add gold to the equation, plus a mouthful of these mercury fillings and you can have a lot of current and a lot of mercury that leaves these fillings. Mercury is so bad because the body accumulates it. Also it's considered the most dangerous elemental toxin in the world next to plutonium. And where people just don't understand...it's not just the one time exposure to it...it's the constant day by day exposure. Now add other environmental toxins...it gets worse.

So, please keep an open mind. Scientists are constantly learning and making discoveries, and more and more information is being exposed how wrong it is to have mercury and other poisons in our mouth. Have you all not noticed that mercury is being phased out of so many products?

Thanks for your understanding. :) I'd be glad to list some of these studies if you would want. It may take some time, but it's worth it to me, if it helps people learn more about this. Thanks.

Those symptons sound very similar to panic or anxiety attacks. Alot of people, myself included, mistake these attacks as being something of a physical problem, rather than mental. I also went through numerous tests for my heart, only to discover through my pastor that I was having anxiety attacks.

I had the same thing happen -- (crown was not gold) -- medicinal taste leaking from the crown. I ended up pulling the crown off, it made me crazy. I am allergic to the eugenol in the cement. I found out b/c I got temporary cement from the pharmacy that contained eugenol. I broke out in hives from it. And you will know by the smell/taste.

Hi Rhody:

I enjoyed what you wrote, but it kind of concerns me a bit. I don't want to go into the whole thing (which is posted on this site), but I just had a porcelain filling re-replaced with the mercury. For some reason, my body was rejecting it? After 5 months of pain, ended up having a root canal (4 roots and a lot of blood in the tooth), and I am almost feeling normal again. Now I'm afraid to get a crown and aggravate the area. Anyway, I'm more concerned about what you wrote about mercury. That small amount can leak, etc? Would be interested in your thoughts

Thanks!

Hi,

This can be quite a controversy, as you probably know. There's one side that thinks this mercury is safe, and there's the other side which does not. So, without going into all of that, at this time, I can say that yes the mercury does leak. The rate that it leaks, depends on the type of filling. Mercury fillings with higher amounts of copper can leak more mercury, for example.

I don't think you should worry about it, but that you should be concerned. You can read so much about this, from many sources. I guess there's so many of us that rely sometimes on how certain dental products make us feel, rather than relying soley on scientific proof.

In my case, I did notice a large sensitivity to these mercury filling, when my tooth broke apart, along with the filling. So I'm just glad that I got rid of those metal fillings and am happy with the choice that I made in getting white fillings.

I've heard of some people having problems with the white fillings too. So, we all have to be concerned with the type of dental restoration materials that we are getting. Doctors, scientists, and dentists still have a long ways to go, before they fully understand these reactions that we all can have as individuals.

I hope that helps some. :)

Hi,

I wrote once before, but the message doesn't seem to read correctly. Let me see if this helps things a bit.

Yes, my last message made it so I can read it now. :)

I don't believe you can get any ill effects from Mercury in fillings.Mercury occurs naturally on deep sea beds from volcanic rock. This is absorbed by small sea creatures which are eaten by larger sea creatures. The mercury works its way up the food chain until you eat the seafood. There is thousands of times more mercury in a piece of Tuna for example than you will ever get from your fillings.

kafriend....did the cement affect your gums? what were your other symtoms?
