I've never taken methotrexate but I've heard there are a lot of side effects. I have rheumatoid arthritis and my doctor wanted to try Plaquenil first. It has less side effects. It's working quite well for me.

If you are concerned about the safety of the drug, ask your doctor about alternatives. There are other drugs available.

Lady_Bayou,

How long does it take for Methotrexate to show whether or not its working?

He said it took him about a week or so before he 'thought' he saw some changes, and about a month before he could say for sure that it was working for the better!!

:-)

Well, i've been on it for 3 weeks now but so far so no signs of improvement!

Hi, I answered your first post yesterday, I'm finding great relief with Methotrexate and Enbrel. I also take Mobic. I had a rant somewhere in these boards about Mobic but it turns out that I actually had a rotten gallbladder that needed to be removed. My bad. I get around so much better with the Mobic. I can't say I'm 100% pain free with anything, I think I've had chronic pain for about twenty years. Either that or I'm a chronic whiner, and I'd hate to believe that about myself. Please read my other post and keep track of your iron levels, it's important. Good luck. :jester:

I think I replied on the original thread. MTX worked for me in about 4-5 weeks. By 6 weeks, I knew for sure that it was helping. Don't be afraid of the side effects. Just know that the shots are easier on your system than the pills. (31 gauge syringe w/ 5/16th inch needle ultra thin are nearly painless. )
