Is he also doing PT to strengthen his trunk? With shots they seem to be really agressive with PT. Has anyone suggested surgery of any kind. What did they say is wrong, MRI or anything like that? With neck and back pain it is probably really hard to handle PT. Good Luck!
I hope you find the answers you are looking for, it is really hard at times to care for back pain sufferers. We can be pretty miserable at times. We don't even know what we want cause were never comfortable. I never would have understood someone being in this kind of pain for long periods of time for there back. So don't be to hard on yourself for not knowing what to do for your husband, just hang in there like your doing and one day this will be all behind you. Keep moving forward, find the answers to what's going on! Take Care!

I am sorry for all your husband's pain. I'm not quite clear on what kind of dr he is seeing right now but he should be under the care of a spine specialist--either a neurosurgeon or an orthopedic spine specialist. There are things that can be done other than surgery sometimes....and I doubt that surgery would be recommended for deteriorating disc unless they were severely impaired.
As for the pain medication, tell him to take them as ordered and not to worry. Hopefully, the spine specialist will be able to help him with the right treatment and he won't need them. However, please keep in mind that addiction is not something he needs to worry about. That only happens to about 1-2 percent of the patients when they don't take their meds as prescribed.
Don't let him be rushed into a surgery either; get a second opinion. Once you have a diagnosis, come back and tell us what it is and maybe we can give you some good suggestions.
I don't know what the procedure is where "freezing" is done...please do some research on that or else get the medical term and ask us here. No one but a specialist should be giving these shots and it should always be done with a machine called a fluoroscope to help guide the needle.
I hope some of this has been helpful.....I wish you good luck and hope you will come back and keep us informed as to what is happening.

Carol
