I hear people quote old cliches like they're the absolute truth. They've become so ingrained in our minds we think they're infallible. They might as well be from the Bible, even though they're not. And they hurt us because they're so UNTRUE. An example: "Sticks and stones will break my bones, but names will never hurt me". Yahhh, right. Or "What doesn't kill you makes you stronger." Oh, reallllyyyy?? If you get run over by a truck and survive, does it make you stronger? I don't think so.

I'd like to start a thread about stupid cliches that we need to purge from our minds. Any ideas?

Interesting idea for a post, Ive sat and wondered about many of them myself.
The stick and stone I honestly feel was thought of by some parent to tell their
child in dealing with a bully. I've heard a newer verision call "sticks and stone
may break the bones but names will break the heart" Unfornately thats the
last thing a bully needs to hear.

Your right words can be very powerful, extremely powerful. I also feel some
saying are mankinds way of accepting the fact there are some things in life
we just have to accept like it or not. Here's one of my favorites
"Actions speak louder than words" It's true at least in my eyes.
Good Luck in your thread, K

"This panic thing is just one of lifes wake up calls" you will have "peace of mind" again. "You'll be fine." "The grass always seems greener"etc. I could go on all day about the stupid cliches people have thrown at me within the past few weeks. I copped "That which doesn't kill you makes you stronger."

The MOST annoying is "It's always in the last place you look." Of course it is. Why would you keep looking for something after you've found it?????? DUH!!!!!

It's good I can make people smile by writing a crap cliche on the net.

How about this one. "It's only as bad as you think." OK, so I get hit by a bus or truck and think all my Christmases have come at once and they will have???????/ What the????? Hello

Or "It'll make you grow hairs on your chest/ Give you curly hair" In my opinion, that's a perfect reason NOT to do something.

Or "It's no good crying over spilt milk" Who cries over spilt milk then tells someone about it.

"No pain, no gain". NOT.
No pain means no pain. Which is a good thing. Enough pain going around as it is.

And "Reach for the moon. Even if you don't achieve it, you will land among the stars." Somebody didn't read their astronomy book. The stars are light years farther away than the moon. And why would you want to land on them? They're fireballs and they'd burn you right up. And the moon? A cold, dead little satellite with no atmosphere. OK, I'm rambling a little bit....
