hi ya's, hopefully this is an ok place to put this..

Just wondering if anyone knows what the opposite of diabeties is?.. about 2 months ago i had a glocose intolerance test as well as a lactose intolernce test.. the doctor then said i didnt have diabeties i had the opposite of diabeties - he didnt call it anything but that, he said that after drinking the stuff that ya have ta drink for the test, my body wasnt absorbing sugar or lactose, and to avoid both of those things.. i would have thought if i wasnt absorbing it that i should start really eating junk food, with lots of sugar! i have been waiting for an appoointment with a dietition but they must b really busy as i havent had it yet.. just trying to find sum more info on it.. so does anyone know if theres a name other than "the opposite of diabeties", i also have crohns disease.. he said its a common "side effect" of that..

any help would b much appreciated,
thanx!

Diet is pretty important.
I was diagnosed with Hypoglycemia when I was 15 and the doctor basically didn't explain it very well to my mother.
I suffered by not eating correctly for yrs! Up until about two yrs ago as a matter of fact. I will be 39 in a month.

I now avoid all junk food, sweets and caffeine.
I drink alcohol in moderation and I check my blood sugar levels.

If I eat bad things I fall asleep, have terrible personality changes and gain weight around the middle.

I eat a balanced diet of protein, healthy carbs etc...
Sugar free candy.
I feel 100% better.
I been able to keep my weight around 125.

I also have low thyroid, blood pressure and cholesterol issues.
However, since following a better diet things are a lot better.

There are a lot of good books regarding diet out there.

Hi ya's, ive been looking up info, and i think perhaps the reason i dont seem to loose weight is b'cos ive been concentraing on reducing the amount of fat wen i should b perhaps reducing the amount of sugar sooooo i found a site that tells u how much sugar fat etc is in particular food and one of the things i looked up was grapes, and well they seem to have a lot of sugar.. is the sugar in fruit differnt from the sugar in sweets? or is fruit a no go if im cutting out sugar?

What are the good diet books that you have found for hypoglycemia? I think I might have it and it is causing me to have non epileptic seizures. How were you diagnosed?

i havent read any books on it.. just what ive found here on the internet.. im not even intirely sure that i have it.. my doctor just said im not absorbing sugar or sumthink, called it the oppisite of diabeties, he said to cut all sugar from my diet, am still waiting on an apointment with the dietition.. so really im not to sure about the hole thing, except that i am trying to loose weight - and wondering if the sugar is the culpret and not the fat..

I think you need a new doctor. This one may know what he's doing but his explanation of things isn't the best. When see a doctor, I want to know exactly whats going on. What does opposite of diabetes mean? If our bodies didn't absorbe sugar(glucose ) we would diet. Every carbohydrate we eat is converted to Glucose (brain fuel). For a OGTT to mean anything, insulin and cortisol must also be measured. Did he measure those? Did your glucose go up or down when you took the test? Did he say you were hyperinsulinemic. Chances are, you metabolize carbs way too fast or your producing more insulin than you need for the amount of glucose you consumed. If your insulin is still working normally, maybe it drove your Blood sugar down, hard to tell from what he told you. Having a high levels of insulin from a glucose test is the same thing prediabetes and type two diabetes is. They are just varying degrees of how well your insulin regulates your Blood glucose. If I had a doctor tell me what he told you, I would be very, very unhappy.
...Regardless, an abnormal GTT usually means that a Low Glycemic index diet will help. Usually is the key word there. You may want to look up the Low GI diet on the internet and read about it. It made a big difference in my health.
Rick
