My ENT mentioned I would be a great candidate for shaving of the tonsils. I get tonsil stones alot and it's getting to the point where I am going CRAZY!
Has anyone ever heard of or had this type of procedure before? If you have I would love to hear post op issues...and if it worked ??????

yes!!! I had a laser procedure done in my ENTs office in Dec. 03. It didn't help. I had a tonsillectomy 2 1/2 months ago because of chronic tonsil stones. hope this helps.

Oh thank goodness someone posted! Was it the laser that shrinks the tonsils....or the shaver?
I have another appointment tomorrow for a 2nd opinion...Did it help with the tonsilectomy? I am going crazy with these stones! I know there must be some big yucky thing deep down in there that has not come to the surface....I get these stones like 3-4 times per week.

basically, my doc shaved the top layer off of my tonsil. the theory is to even out the tonsil where the stones can't fill in the crypts. it was very uncomfortable, but nothing compared to the tonsillectomy. the tonsillectomy was my last resort. i was picking out tons of stones every day. the recovery was miserable!!!!! i am 32, and i had a lot of problems. now that i am healed, i am very glad i did it!!! no more stones! good luck, and let me know if you have any other ????s

Sydniesmommie, how did your appointment go today? I'm going to my ENT tomorrow and I'm going to ask him about lasering and I also read something about radio frequency to shrink tonsils. I never heard about shaving them, I'll ask about that also.

I had a great appointment, however, this doctor mentioned I should take the right tonisl out. I am going to set another appointment tomorrow with a specialist that does the PITA..shaving of the tonsil... I have to do something..I am going to go bonkers with these stones.
At my age 36 I think a less invasive procedure is worth a try!

Moderator 2....I am sorry for breaking the rules. I found the reason for not being able to sign on with this name. It was certainly not intentional or deliberate the reason for changing my name. Won't happen again!
Ok...so....
I went to another ENT today! I liked him alot! He is going to do something called cobalation to both tonsils. It is basically a method to shrink them down 70-80%....
He says it will help with the stones.....And the recovery time is 1-2 days a mild sore throat....
I am still afraid! You are still put under..but there is no cutting.
Has anyone had this method? Was it effective?
