Hey all. I have posted before on here about chewing and spitting, but no one seems to have much information on it.
It's getting really bad. I'm constantly ordering takeout just to c/s, sometimes throwing up the residue. Because whenever I am not doing this, Im basically starving myself (just diet drinks, no food), every little bit that is accidentally swallowed is actually making me gain weight.
I am so depressed, my weight is higher than it's been in a year at least.. but what is the most depressing is my aching, swollen jaw and cheeks. My face is totally distorted from all the c/s and I'm afraid that I've done permanent damage!!-- does anyone think this is really possible? I have had the c/s habit for a very embarassingly long time.
I used to look so different from this, now i feel my face and body are so bloated and strange that I often refuse to go out in public. I wonder how long it would take for the swelling t go down if i stopped c/s? a week? a month? a year? never?
someone please help me, I am in so much pain and misery I dont know what to do with myself anymore.
love and support.

c/s = chewing up food and spitting it out
not purging, but I do that sometimes too
c/s also makes my face puffy

Sounds like you have swollen salivary glands from c/s, though I guess I wasn't aware that that could happen.
Carbs are digested mainly in the mouth, which would explain why you are gaining weight.
I don't think this can cause permanent damage, but you really should try give those glands a break. I know it's easier said than done...I assume c/s is something you do to deal with other issue in your life.
Try Icepacks and ibuprophen to help the inflammation.
I hope this helps, and wish you luck.

PS)what does your family and/or doctor say about this? Are you getting help?

I too have posted about this habit on here before. I can't believe there's not more information on it because the more people I talk to about it, the more it seems more common. To me, the whole thing just seems so logical and that's why I do it. I never knew how habit forming it would become though. Maybe if there was more information on it, I would have never started to do it in the first place. Who knows. Sometimes I think my cheeks feel puffy too. I think for me it might be in my head though. I don't know. Someone should ask their couselor/psychologist/whatever about this and then let us all know. I would if I had one.

I don't think the c/s is making your face swell, you said you purge the residue and that i believe is what is doing it. As far as gaining weight, well, I am not sure.. My thoughts about the carb thing, I am not completely a go on that.. I realise that carbs, cals, and fat may be absorbed in the mouth and all but it wouldn't be enough for gaining weight. Just wouldn't. Are you staying well hydrated? Also, you could be retaining alot of fluid. I am not sure as to why you are gaining, if you are basically starving yourself, you would lose unless you are but retaining alot of fluid. Is the food salty? I am really not sure these are just some thoughts.. I would lay off of the purging for a bit.. Also, if you have been doing this for a long time maybe you need to try to kickstart your metabolism some.. I don't c/s alot only once in a while and i don't purge that often.. so, i really can't help to much. I wanted you to know that people do look at this but not always no the answer. but i tried.

are carbs really mostly absorbed in the mouth, not the stomache?
i have never heard that before, is it true?
any info appreciated!

There are big red bump on the back of my tongue. When I eat anything they hurt. Could these be from constant chewing and spitting? And if not, does anyone know what else they could be from? Grrr I hate all this so much!

for me its about release. the bingeing(c/s) is how i disconnnect. i try to hold out unbtil evening and then i just let go of all my stuff. mostly, i'm very hard on myself all day, and when i binge its my way shutting out that judgemental voice

hey i do that too, but the main reason i do that is not for the food taste or anything, its because i'm putting off another problem i have to deal with. and after i do it a long time, the same thing happens to me. when u start feeling pain, drink cool water, and just let it glide down your throut. eating disorders YOU have to pull yourself out of, mines a cry for attention, but... you have to want to stop, if you are actually going to. no one can live with an eating disorder, the disorder becomes your life
