My doctor put me on abilify for OCD and disorganized thinking, or something like that. Im supposed to take 10 mg tonight. Has anyone been on this med before? If so, what can you tell me about it?

I had it 2 years ago or so and had a horrible reaction. I basically became pyschotic on it. I was extremely violent and aggressive. I could not sit still for 5 seconds I was constanly walking back and forth. Also my body temperature was so messed up I could of walked outside in freezing cold weather in shorts and feel too hot.
After 3-4 days I quit it. The anti-psychotics are horrible!!!!!!!! I would only take high doses of SSRI. Hey, it might work better for you than me!!!!!

I took it for about 2 weeks, started at 5mg then went to 10 that's when the side
effects of stiff muscles, burning tougne and burning eyes started, so I quit it.

I was on it. I've never heard of it prescribed for OCD though... only for psychosis and/or mood stabilization. (Although it's a pretty new drug.) I had only mild success on it for mood stabilization. I am unsure as to how it works for OCD, though, since I wasn't really thinking about a potential relationship between it and my OCD.
On the upside, I don't remember any particularly bad side effects...

hmm well my experience was good. It stopped my psychosis...it made me think clearly and rationaly AND logically! I don't see things. I'm not paranoid anymore...but I have schizophrenia and I have never experienced OCD. I probably have had it in the past but abilify is something I recommend if your doctor really really thinks you need it...I dont know though...I've never heard of an antipsychotic for OCD.

I thought antipsychotics were only used to augment other drugs when used for OCD.

The shrink that I saw only once, put me on that drug. I was on the 15 mg of Abilify, and it made me feel really drugged, I was in a daze and I couldn't sit still. I took the drug for a week, also my legs were numb, and I was walking slow because my nervous system was mixed up. I am not on the drug anymore. Now I am seeing a new counselor, and I am on a new drug called: Fluvoxamine (50 mg), it hasn't kicked in yet, I just started on the drug.

Fluvoxamine is LUVOX and it is one of the top SSRI meds for OCD. My Daughter is 10 and she takes .25 of Ridperdal and is really helps ALOT!
Best of luck!

My son is schizophrenic and he also has some OCD symptoms (touching objects and walking in certain patterns) . He just started on it two days ago and I am very curious to see if it will affect his OCD symptoms because the other anti-psychotics he has been on have not. So far the Abilify seems to be making him a little tired instead of hyped up, but he is only on 5 mg right now, we will be raising the dose, and he is also still taking Zyprexa until the Abilify kicks in.
I will report later about if it helps the OCD.

Kime, it is nice to see you back on the boards. Is the vitamin c still helping your son?
