Since you explained my question so well gregv thought you might be able to help again. For anyone else this is in regards to my previous post on bridge vs implant. My question is still in regards to that. The tooth in question has had a root canal then a post and crown. When x rayed my dentist showed me a dark spot that she said is decay and is causeing me trouble. Now I have 2 questions: 1) Was my previous root canal approx 4 years ago on that tooth not done properly? 2) Why cant she remove the crown and post, clean out the decay and put another post and crown in, instead of pulling the tooth and doing a bridge like she want to? Any imput would be apprechiated.

Hiya Washee,
Root canal treatment isn't always successful. I've just had root canal treatment, and she said if I don't experience any pain in 5 consecutive years, the treatment was successful. As you've started having trouble after 4 years, it could be the reason.
There is a chance that the previous root canal treatment you had, wasn't done properly though. Have you asked your dentist anything about it? I'm always questioning my dentist as I like to make sure about things lol.

Well the problem is I like and trust my dentist, but their is a language barrier in the form of a heavy accent (with her) so needless to say it is hard to understand her and I want to make sure I know what I am doing and why before I jump into anything. But thanx for the info.

If you can save your teeth, meaning your original teeth root, then do it...If there is a way to save it of course.. I had the same problem and ended getting an implant and i regret it...It still hurts and is stiff....
