I had half of my colon removed a year ago and since then, I have done pretty well in watching my diet. My question is this, I was asked to eat foods with lots of fiber, but was asked to stay away from foods such as nuts and strawberries. There is a wealth of fiber in nuts and it seems that all healthy snack bars contain nuts. Any ideas anyone?

Whole grains such as rice, oats, oat bran, wheat bran, dried beans, lentils, are high in fiber. Adding psyllium to foods will add fiber. Adding flaxseed meal will add fiber. Peels on fruits are good fiber sources. Potato peel left on potatoes is good source of fiber.

Nuts usually are not chewed to a pulverized state, therefore, will allow small pieces to lodge in diverticulitis pockets, same with strawberry seeds or similar.
