Hey!
I haven't really researched bulimia because I've always assummed that I struggle with anorexia, but I recently came across something that got me thinking. What is the definition of bulimia? Is it specifically purging by means of vomitting or just any kind of purging... period?
I don't make myself thow up, but if I feel I have eaten too much I will fast, eat very little the next day, or run off the extra calories. Is this bulimia? I want to know what I am dealing with here.
What the heck am I?
Thanks in advance for your help.

Im the same way as you. And I've heard that there are three forms of purging, vomiting, excessive exercise, and laxatives. I barely eat 800 calories a day but if i do eat something that i feel was too much, i either dont eat for two days or head straight to the gym so im not sure what im classified as either. I guess a form of both?

I think that sounds like a little mix of both. I think it's called EDNOS. It's ED Not Otherwise Specified or something to that effect. I think people who get classified as EDNOS generally exhibit symptoms of both Bulimia and Anorexia Nervosa, but I could be wrong.

Yes, it is bulimia. Here's why: there are two types of bulimia. 1. The Purging Bulimic - one who binge eats and then rids the body of calories through purging (i.e. vomiting, or abusing diuretics, laxatives, or enemas) 2. The Non Purging Bulimic - one who binge eats and then rids the body of calories by excessive exercise or dietary fasting (meaning that if one binge eats, then they won't eat for a period of time to help even out the calories).
I used to be a non-purging bulimic, but now i've gotten a lot better. most people think that all bulimics throw up, but, that is clearly not the truth. i hope i answered your question.

Really? Because I am Anorexic and tend to do the same thing. I "get rid" of my calories through exercise, or at least that's what I did in my "sicker" days. Now I just restrict and/or fast. I've never binged though.

When my eating disorder first started I'd just restrict and exercise alot also. Then I stopped exercising because my mom said I was losing weight too fast and then I started emotional eating cycle. Then I started to binge and abuse laxatives and diet pills. I did have seven months of just eating one meal a day but didn't take any laxatives. Now I'm back to the laxative abuse. It's interesting hearing how everyone else started. :nono:

well..if you don't binge, then you're not bulimic. the excessive exercise and/or dietary fasting only deals with how a bulimic may deal with their binge eating tendencies.
