Hello my name is Rachel and I am currently taking a Family Stress and Coping class at college. The semester group project that I am focusing on is leukemia and its effects on the family. I was looking for input from any survivors, caregivers or doctors about the impact of this cancer. Anything concerning how it may have affected one’s life, family, values, emotions, finances, relationships, or anything else would be really useful. Your insight would be greatly appreciated. Thank you, have a great day! God bless!

Hi Rachel,

I'm a 30 yr. old married male with two little girs, that was diagnosed with Chronic Mylogenous Lukemia on Oct. 31st of this year. Bone marrow transplant is the only type of cure for this disease. I haven't had it very long, but my wife and I would be happy to help you out in any way that we can. Feel free to email me at shouldersmark@qwest.net if you would like.

Good luck,

Mark Shoulders

Glivec/Gleevec has been approved for CML in the U.S. and Canada since this spring [2001]. The manufacturer even has a Web site for clinical trials.

My child had AML, followed by a successful but not uneventful bone marrow transplant. At about the same time I learned that a former colleague had just been diagnosed with CML. Because of this, I've spent considerable time looking up information on various hematologic cancers.

My friend's very hopeful about his condition ever since hearing about Gleevec, and is scheduled to go on it soon. Perhaps you may want to investigate this drug for yourself.

Here are links to the two largest clinical trials sites for the U.S. and Canada as well as information on Gleevec.

Best of luck to you,

Hello Rachel they call me gidget. I am a patient at the lymphoma clinic, M.D.Anderson Cancer Center in Houston, Texas. I am 46 yrs old and have been going through this nightmare for couple of years now. I am also on medical retirement. I worked the last 10 yrs of my carrer at M.D.Anderson as a registered phlebotomist technologist and recevied my certification in 1981 but started my career in 1973. I was the 49th person to recieve my registry and am proud to be in the top 50 in the nation. So, I have gone from taking care of the cancer patients to being a patient at MDACC. I guess you could say that I have been on both sides of the fence. During my years of working I witnessed a lot. I would be happy to help ya out so if you need anymore info.
