I am disabled and on ssi and medicaid I am having vision problems and want to find out if medicaid covers a visit to an opthamologist?

I think that it does. Ophthalmology falls under "major medical", unlike optometry.

I sure hope it does I have not had my eyes checked for 20 years an I am really having bad blurred vision. Thanks for your reply.

I think that you have to ask your primary care doctor for a referral. Then you would have to call some ophthalmology offices and ask them if they accept medicaid. I am almost positive that Medicaid covers ophthalmology visits. If not, if worse comes to worse, an eye exam from an optometrist would be much less expensive if you have to pay out of pocket. In my opinion, it would be second best, but would be better than getting no exam at all. Good luck,

P.S. Ophthalmologists also accept self-paying patients, which would cost you about $150-$200 out of pocket.
