View Full Version : Question on if I have diabetes? Possible symptons.

Hi, I'm new here and I've been increasingly concerned with the fact that I might have diabetes.

I haven't really noticed this until the past 6-8 months. What I've noticed is that I frequently need to urinate like I get the urge in about 40 minutes.

some times, I go to the washroom and I need to go back again like 20 minutes later. I never get that feeling of my bladder completely emptying.

I used to be able to go 4.5 Hours without going to the washroom when I was 13.

I'm also always thirsty, so I drink a lot of water.

My vision has been getting poorer, although I have pretty bad vision and wear glasses. Although this might be due to computers.

I'm hungry all the time, and yea I never feel really good.

I'm 17 male now, 170 pounds, 5'7, and I used to be a really active person. But this year I've been basically inactive because school has been getting to me. Trying to get good university marks.

I'm really concerend now. My parents own a fast food restaurant so I eat a lot of chinese fast food. Every day, almost every meal basically. So I can't be really healthy, I know that. I'm out of shape but not exactly obese or skinny. Moderate size.

So, are these the symptons that should merit me getting a test? I'm pretty concerned that I have it. One of the things that triggered me that I might have a problem was during a 3 hour exam, I had to go to the washroom 5 times, and the teacher thought for sure I was cheating.

I went to see the doctor before about frequent urination and he tested my urine and found no infection, but I don't think thats the same as a diabetes test.

I'm fairly certain that I have diabetes because I've been reading about the symptons and I have all of them and have been experiencing them for the past 6 months. My mom also has high blood pressure so I'm not sure if that might have anything to do with it.

I'm pretty concerned now, but how is the test like? Do they draw blood from you or something? My family is not really optimistic, so I just want to gather some information before I take this test.

Also, I want to know how I should deal with something like this. Especially to my parents. I'm sure they would be impacted by something like this.

Thanks for any help.

Demon,

It's good that you are noticing the changes and thinking of exploring the possibility that it could be diabetes. Yes, those symptoms could be, or could be something else, too. I thought the fatigue that came on was related to sleep apnea and that my restroom visits every quarter hour were because I was healthy and flushing out all the water and juices from the insatiable thirst I had....little did I know.

Chances are that they will do a fasting glucose on you and see where you are at. Your doctor may even do a confirmation test in the office when the results come back (mine did). There, it will most likely be drawn from your finger.

Anyway, it's good that you want to follow up and check this out. It's better to find out sooner, rather than later, so that you can make the necessary adjustments.

Best Wishes!

...One important thing to learn from the fasting glucose test is whether your insulin resistant or not. The disorder that leads to type two diabetes is insulin resistance, in fact they're the same condition except for the levels of Blood sugar. Less than 200 your OK(so to speak), over 200 then you get a diagnosis. It seems if the doctors would treat insulin resistance then we would be a lot farther in preventing true diabetes.
....Anyway, I have always been the point of humor in our family becasue I was always thirsty and always needed to urinate. But my glucose has always been a little high but no where near the point of concern. I started getting reactive hypoglycemia from this condition(insulin resistance) and it was effecting an inner ear disorder I have. I went on a Low GI Diet and I have simply been amazed at the difference. It solved the hypoglycemia but also had a big effect on triglycerides, cholesterol, and blood pressure, all for the better. One thing I also notice that I don't have to go to the bathroom as often and I'm not thirsty all the time.
...I eat low to medium glycemi foods and one of the foods I had to cut back drastically on was rice and potatoes. So if your eating a lot of chinese food then your probably eating a lot of rice also. Some rice is ok like Uncle Ben's converted rice or brown rice but I imagine the rice that is purchased in bulk for the resturant business isn't one of those. Get your tests like Cobalt Blue suggested, do some research on the Low Glycemic Index Diet, and hopefully everything will work out, which I think it will.
