I had to stop drinking caffeine completely. All the medical books say to stop caffeine if you have panic attacks or ocd.

it is also believed by many that aspertame (which is present in most diet drinks) may make seritonin release irregular, and less available to the body, which can cause depression, panic disorders, etc. there are many health issues that coincide with diet drinks, so i would suggest you not drink them.

I used to drink caffeine for ages while I was having panic attacks because I thought a cup of tea could surely not cause such a reaction. But I was wrong! No wonder I had a panic attack mid-morning all the time!
I don't ever drink caffeine anymore. Chocolate has a small amount of caffiene, which doesn't seem to affect me... thank god!!! :jester:

i am now convinced i want to stop. its just that if i derink less than 6 a day i get a huge head ache and start puking... one time i ddint have any for two days i got so sick i was shaking i think i almost died i kept puking i couldnt even drive to the store to get one. i thought about using hydroxycut or one of those when the caffine withdrawl symptoms kick in but i think the ingredients in the soda besides caffine are addictive and wolud still have withdrawls. what do u all think ? how can i kick this dirty habit

i would suggest not quitting cold turkey if you have such serious withdrawal symptoms, but instead wean yourself off it slowly. furthermore, if it's honestly that intense i would also suggest seeing a doctor, because that doesn't sound normal to me at all.
EDIT: i would also suggest taking a multivitamin, because your body may be in bad shape considering how much caffeine you've been drinking. caffeine prevents the absorption of various vitamins and minerals in your body.

That is pretty bad caffiene withdrawal symptoms. I would check with a Dr. also.
Anyway, I would consider quitting coffee and diet pops. Do you think it might help?
Thanks.

Toxicity Effects of Aspartame Use:
It often takes at least sixty days without *any* aspartame or NutraSweet to see a significant improvement. Check all labels very carefully (including vitamins and pharmaceuticals). Look for the word "aspartame" on the label and avoid it. (Also, it is a good idea to avoid "acesulfame-k", "sunette", "Sucralose" aka, "Splenda").
Panic Attacks (common aspartame toxicity reaction)
Seizures and Convulsions
Dizziness
Tremors
Migraines and Severe Headaches (Trigger or Cause From Chronic Intake)
Memory Loss (common Nutrasweet toxicity effects)
Slurring of Speech
Numbness or Tingling of Extremities
Chronic Fatigue
Depression
Insomnia
Irritability
Marked Personality Changes
Phobias
Rapid Heart Beat, Tachycardia (another frequent NutraSweet reaction)
Asthmatic Reactions
Chest Pains
Hypertension (High Blood Pressure)
Nausea or Vomiting
Diarrhea
Abdominal Pain
Swallowing Pain
Itching
Hives (Urticaria)
Other Allergic-Like Reactions
Blood Sugar Control Problems (Hypoglycemia or Hyperglycemia)
Menstrual Problems or Changes
Impotency and Sexual Problems
Craving for Food
Weight Gain
Hair Loss (Baldness) or Thinning of Hair
Burning Urination
Excessive Thirst or Hunger
Bloating, Edema (Fluid Retention)
Infection Susceptibility
Joint Pains
Brain Cancer (Pre-approval studies in animals)
Death

I doubt that reaction was all withdrawal exactly. It probably caused a headache that was more in the migraine range and the migraine probably caused the vomiting. Either way I agree that weaning would be better to avoid the headache. If you do talk to your doctor you could ask about a migraine medicine until you are done weaning.
No doubt that caffiene and aspartame can really be counter-productive in recovering from panic attacks.

kathleen des maisons who is the author of 'potatoes not prozac' has some very good advice on diet drinks. there is an article about it in the newsletter section on her website. www.radiantrecovery.com. I think her whole programme in general is very good for anxiety disorders. the community forum is particularly helpful
Hope that helps

That's incredible.. And I didn't think anything could tear me away from my Dr. Pepper.. Seems he's been a bad doctor. So caffiene can really make OCD worse huh?
