Pregnancy is always a possibility, although it's unlikely to happen in your case.

Birth control can cause weight gain, breast tenderness, and increased appetite.

It's likely that you'll continue to spot the whole time you're on the shot, too. Many women never quit spotting.

With any hormonal birth control, bleeding for the first few months is pretty normal. (Although, I'm not sure what you mean by "break thru bleeding") Some methods cause it less than others, but which ones they are depend on you.

In the Depo, it's VERY common to spot the first time, but it apparently gets better. I'm very surprised that your doctor and pharmacist did not tell you this. I was only on it once, but quit because I was worried about my bone density.

I noticed that while on the Depo, I had symptoms that were similar to pregnancy (morning sickness...), but I'm having them on the pill too and I'm 100% sure I'm not pregnant.

no they didnt tell me that the first time id bleed for the whole frickin 3 months...i wuoldnt have gone on it if id known that. and im getting off it at the end of february and starting the patch (the only thing i havent tried lol) and not only has the depo shot made me bleed for three months but itcauses major complications when you want to have kids and the bone density thing..i definently DO NOT recommend this form of birth control *uhhg*

It is possible to get pregnant on the Depo. My friend got pregnant after months of being on depo with twins. She gained a ton of weight and had alot of irregular bleeding which is the most common side effects. Your periods can be heavier and longer, or happen less often and be lighter than usual. Some women spot during their cycle, and women who have been on the shot for a long time sometimes stop getting their periods altogether.
SHe went back for her 3 rd shot and that's when she found out she was pregnant.

There's a chance that you will spot, at least for a while, anyway.

It really depends on the person. I've had friends who had an experience similar to yours, plus tons of weight gain. But myself, I loved the depo and am pretty sad to quit it. I haven't had a period since I went on it (I've been off for nearly a month) and since my periods were incredibly painful, I'm loving every second of it.

Wanna know my experience with the shot? I'm 17.I gained 45 pounds in 3 months, bled 3 months straight, and also got PREGNANT on it, and that was WITH condoms. I now have a beautiful healthy 14 month old little boy. Good luck

i have a friend also who was on the depo shot and gained alot alot of weight...but i think everyone is different some people dont gain weight with pills and i gained 10 pounds in 1 month on being on bcp so im not gonna take nothing but condoms and pray not to have a condom malfunction...plus with college and my fiance always working we dont really see each other....but if you girls are sexually active then take the chance of gaining the pounds rather than have a baby and changin yoiur whole life....its cool that u guys are taking care of urselves....
