I have a question for anyone else out there that may have some answers. I was newly diagnosed with AML Type M4 in Nov. 2002 and was induced into remission shortly after and am now in the consolidation treatment phase. I was just wondering if anyone else affected by this disease have ended up having every side effect of the chemotherapy as I have. Also I'm looking at having the possiblity of having a bone marrow transplant if my older brother is a match. I have an older sister but she was tested and not a match. If my brothe is not a match, then I guess it will be like the lottery to find a compatible donor on the National donor list.
Anyone who wants to feel free to reply. You can also reply to me personally at through my e-mail addie: Constructor4U@excite.com. Looking forward to any response.

My friend was diagnosed in Nov 2002 also. Two rounds of chemo put her in remission and she received another before a bone marrow donor was found. She fortunately found a donor, none of her family matched, but the donor found was just one point less that a sibling match. She is at the City of Hope in Duarte, CA and receiving her first vial of bone marrow as I am writing this. I know the worst side effect for her was problems with her equalibrium, of course there were others, but that is what bothers her most. I hope your brother is a match.

To mb: I hope that your friend's bone marrow transplant takes and he/she becomes cancer free. I am waiting to get my BMT and my brother was tested and was found to be a perfect match. Now my Dr. wants me to gain more weight before the bone marrow transplant process begins, then I will go to the BMT Center in Nashville,TN. Thanks for the posting and for all others facing this terrible disease or one similiar, just keep your chin up and think positive attitude because that's 90 % of the effort of recovery. Attitude and a good support system. Paulrazz

I hope you're battle is going well.

I was diagnosed with AML M2 in September 2001. With the exception of very little hairloss, I experienced all the side effects from the chemotherapy, the most prominent being nausea, vomitting, and weight loss, as well as very low counts. I had to be transfused fairly often during my induction and consolidation.

I also had a BMT done with my brother being a 6/6 match. My sister was a 5/6 match, so I guess I lucked out here.
