I just read in the information archive about long term use of PPI's. On this bacteria that can devolope-can they find that with a scope? I have been on prevacid forever-still have acid problems. Now I think I have an ulcer and switched myself to zantac over the counter. Am I hurting myself worse? What else can you do for acid?

Eat a diet that produces less acid -- foods and drink that are more alkaline is better!!
Almost all drinks other than water are acidic. All meats produce acid. Foods that are alkaline are mostly fruits, veggies and grains are sorta neutral.

From what I have read conventional medical tests miss a lot bacteria's. A 20mg dose of a PPI will reduce the acid in the stomach apprx 90 %, 40 - 60 mg will result in almost zero acid left in the stomach. The older H2's (zantac etc) suppress less - not sure about the numbers...I would say you are lessening the amout of acid you are supressing.
From other readings DGL has shown to workd as good as Zantac for GERD and ulcer healing. There are a number of natural remedies that a natropath could offer...

Dee,
Have a blood test for antibodies to H.pylori...that test will do LOTS more for you than constant dosing to keep symptoms in check.

I was told since I have had h.ploria 2 times in the past blood test wont pick it up. Is this true?

The HP antibodies linger in the blood for a while after - even after you have killed it. The betters tests are the via the endoscope and the breath test. For the breath test I believe you have to be off the PPI's for 20days....
