View Full Version : Worried About Husband

Hi there. I have a question for you. My husband recently got his blood tested, for he is on two cholesterol lowering drugs. His doctor called me today, and said his cholesterol levels are under control now, but his blood sugar level is high: 140. My husband is out of town, but I did talk to him on the phone today: told him about his doctor's call today. He told me he has had high blood sugar readings for many years now. He said doctors have mentioned it to him off and on; but nothing ever done about it. My husband could stand to lose 20-30 pounds. If he did, would/could it lower his blood sugar levels? Do you think he is diabetic now, or borderline? What other tests should he have done, if this sounds serious. I don't know much about diabetttes: I have my own health issues. I hope someone can give me an idea how bad this blood sugar level is. Thanks...Deb

: :nono: Has he ever had a blood glucose tolerance test done? were the results at the four time checks over 120pp/dl? Has he had two consecutive Hemoglobin A1c tests of over 6 he is probably diabetic or pre-diabetic as most drs will call it.
 Your husband has known about it but it is not up to the dr to take further action. And to think nothing has happened in all those years is a serious mistake.
:( Diabetes is most insideious. Most of the damage is silent or hiden. but it is occurring all the same.
:bouncing: Losing some weight would help but he needs to start with professional help...a dietition and his health care provider

This is the first time I even heard about my husband having a high blood sugar level. I can't say I blame his doctors, but he should have been told he MIGHT be pre-diabetic; not just told he has a high blood sugar level. Many people just don't understand what this means...and they assume their doctors would want to have additional tests done, if there was a problem. Its not fair to blame the patient, unless a doctor tells them they might be in danger of developing diabettes, and then they do nothing about it. To me, this is like telling a patient they have high blood pressure, and then just sending them on their way. I know my husband would have taken action sooner, if he thought he was developing diabettes...Deb
