So, my Doctor put my on Adderall today. This is my first medication I will try. I am a little nervous, but I really hope it helps. He told me that it's a 50/50 chance that it will work and if it does not work then it's a 80/20 chance that ritilin will work. I wanted to keep Straterra my last option. I do NOT like the side effects you are supposed to get from Strettera. I will start taking my medication tomorrow and I will be sure to update :jester:

Hmmm... Those are interesting probabilities that your doc quoted you. Adderall is generally thought to be stronger than Ritalin. I wonder why he thought Ritalin would be more likely to work and why he chose Adderall as a first line.
At any rate, I wish you the best.

What I was saying is kind of confusing. There is a 50/50 chance that Adderall will work. If Adderall does not work, then there is an 80 percent chance that Ritilin will work for me. He said that one of the two USUALLY will work for everyone. It's just figuring out which one it is. It would have been the same odds if I would have started out on Ritilin. If Ritilin would have not worked, then there would have be an 80 percent chance that Adderall would work.

Well, I have been taking Adderall XR now for 5 straight days. I really felt something the first day. I had this feeling like there was some sort of weight on me keeping me from floating away and I did not squirm as much. I also felt some of the same effects on Saturday, but now I do not feel the same way. I have sustained energy, but I am back to squirming and getting up and walking around because I am bored.
I am taking 30mg. I go back to the Doc on the 21. I think I am going to get to Concerta to see if it does anything different. If does not help then I will come back to Adderall at a higher dosage. Is it true the Concerta and Ritilin are the same thing? Does anybody have any opinions on my situation? Thanks

Yes, Concerta and Ritalin are the same medication (generic: methylphenidate). Metadate and Ritalin LA are also the same. The difference is in the delivery system and it is a huge difference. Concerta lasts much longer and is much smoother.
Generally speaking, Adderall is stronger. If you are already on it, and IF you aren't too concerned about the recent warnings about Adderall, you might go ahead and try a higher dose of it before changing drugs completely. But, that's up to you.

I've been on it for 4 days. Two at 5 mg., two at 10 mg. It sounds as though you keep upping the dose until it works. And it sounds like you know when it works. So maybe your dose isn't high enough. I'd think you'd want to try upping it before switching it just to be sure -- but obviously your doctor knows best.
For me so far I feel less irritible -- and a little more confident about getting my tasks done at work. It's been good. But I'm still just as forgetful, and I'm still fidgety when resting. I had posted earlier to see what experiences other folks had. I imagine my doctor will have me try 15mg & 20mg in the next week. It will be interesting to see hwo that works.
From these boards, it seems most people are on around 30 - 40 mg.
Good luck with it. My doctor told me that for her patients, she's seen the highest success rate with Adderall (which is why she tried that first with me).
