Hi everybody  I'm not new to the board, just new to posting. I usually use it for research... Anyhow, I have been trying to find a med to help with the problems I'm suffering from. I have anxiety, depression and OCD. The main one is OCD, from which axiety and depression stem from. I was wondering what medicine is the best for this (and in a perfect world) has the least side effects. I'll give you a little history, I was put on Paxil CR about 2 and a half years ago. It was awful to say the least. I lost 25 pounds and I'm only 120 pounds to begin with. Anyway, it took me way too long to realize this medicine sucked. I shouldn't say it was horrible, it actually worked, but the first two weeks are a huge blur and the withdrawals I wouldn't wish on my worst enemy. As soon as I finally started putting some of the weight back on it coincidentally stopped working for me. The doc decided to switch me to Effexor XR. I started taking it about a five weeks ago. This medicine too sucks. I have horrible side effects with it: insomnia, magnified OCD, grinding teeth at night, clenching teeth constantly, etc. So enough rambling, my question is, what medicine should I maybe mention to the doc tomorrow to help with the OCD with minimal side effects? :bouncing:

for me, zoloft greatly helped with my ocd. unfortunately, it made me very manic, as i'm possibly bipolar

unfortunately, the thing with medication is that they seem very subjective to the individual that they are given to in terms of how well they work, their side effects, and everything else. what i've personally been told is that zoloft and celexa work well for ocd with few side effects, but you have to take both in high doses and they didn't work out perfectly for me. with almost any medication however, there will be some negative side effects, so its just a matter of priority in terms of if you want a quick cure for your ocd, or you want to be able to sleep well and etc (i had to take trazedone while on zoloft so i could get any sleep at all) so good luck on your quest!

I always found effexor to work very well for me. Although it has many side effects and a lot of people have bad reactions to it. Paxil did nothing for me at all. Those are the only two I have ever tried so I couldn't really help on any others. Every person is different on which drug will work for them, and I guess you would just have to try and see what works for you. You could schedule frequent Drs. visits when you are trying out a new med so that way you could watch for any major changes very early off? Just a sugsetion.
