Hey Jen,
That sure is an interesting question.
I'm not exactly sure what the difference is between those benzos are but I can tell you that Valium (Diazepam) is one of the oldest benzos and it's a longer lasting benzo with a longer half life. {REMOVED}
I noticed in your post that you're currently taking 3 mg of Ativan a day.
I strongly recommend that you stop taking it right away if you're not already addicted because once this drug gets a hold of you it's very hard to get off of it. I know myself, because I first started taking 2mg a day in February of 2003 and I'm finally down to 1 mg a day. I could go on for hours telling you about my struggles with this drug but I think you get the point.
Well, anywayz ... I hope you like the web site I listed above answers all your questions.
Good Luck,
Brian

I think they all affect everyone differently. Valium makes me kind of drunk feeling, while xanax has been a GODSEND to me. No side effects really, and zero anxiety.
I think it's like comparing advil and tylenol..they do the same thing but they're different.

Tshont, I see you really like the effects of Xanax...however I have a question. Do you take one and feel good but then a few hours later, do u feel the anxiety coming back so u have to take another pill? I am interested in taking it but I am worried that I will feel even more anxious when the medication wears off than before I took it in the first place.. Let me know more about your experience with it if you can! Thanks!

Hi,
I know I'm not the person you directed this question to, but I also took Xanax at one time, so I can at least give you my experiance with it.
I've talked to people who said they could feel it wear off and talked to others and they said they couldn't feel it wear off.
I had 1/2 MG pills but instead of taking the whole 1/2MG at once, I cut them in half and took it 1/4MG at a time.
Doing it that way I never felt the pill wear off.
Splitting the dose up seemed to be what worked for me.

Hey dragonflyz...basically what Gracie said. It works differently for different people.
What happened to me was that I was getting anxiety/ panic attacks in school so I basically only need the xanax in school which is 7 hours. I've only been taking it for 2 days..and both of those days I took one before I left and then had to take one about 5 hours later bc I could feel the anxiety creeping up. Regular Xanax lasts about 4-6 hours, and xanax XR lasts all day (extended release). I have .25 MG regular Xanax.
I would definetly give it a try if you're having anxiety problems. The last couple days have been great for me. And no, your anxiety isn't gunna come back stronger than it was before!
Hope that helps :)

Thanks for all the info...its all very helpful! Another question about Xanax...does it make anyone here very tired? If so, does it interfer with your driving or is it a side effect that goes away over time? Thanks!

I'm going to sound like a broken record :) ...but that probably depends on the person also, that and I would imagine the higher the dose the better chances are that it'll make you tired.
I took a very low dose, so it never really made me tired...even from the very first pill.
It's been a long time since I took it, but if I'm not mistaken there was a warning label on the bottle that said it might cause drowziness.
I know that some people have posted here that when they first started taking it that they felt tired at first, but that effect didn't last long.
I would say just don't drive until you know how it's going to effect you.

I take xanax and it has been a God send for me. However I started at .25 and then my body got used to it so it had to be upped to .50. I do notice when mine wears off. it lasts about 4 to 5 hours for me and then I am taking another. Without it I could not function.

I take it at night to sleep, either 1 mg or 2 mg, it puts me right to sleep and I feel fine the next day; I don't feel like I need to take it after it wears off. Also, some nights, I can even fall asleep without it.

Yes Xanax has been a God send for me also! To answer your Q dragon..it does make me a bit tired..but I can still think clearly/ drive/ function and all that stuff. It just feels like I need a nap.
But hey, would you rather be a bit tired or in a state of panic?
