Hello. I was originally prescribed Seasonale b/c I have very painful menstrual cramps and wanted to eliminate my period. However, I realized I didnt want to spot a lot and thats a big side effect for Seasonale. My doctor prescribed me Mircette..but I was reading that it contains desogestrel and that has a more than doubled increased risk of blood clotting. I have to start one on Sunday and I'm so confused. Does anyone know about the dangers of this desogestrel progestin..can anyone give me any advice on this and Seasonale...Thanx!

I've been on Mircette for almost a year, and I've had no problems at all. I had a little bit of spotting one time when I forgot to take it for a few days, but other than that it's been great. No more cramps and I could set the clock by my periods.

I'm not on Seasonale, but I take Loestrin FE 1.5's. My gyno wasn't a big supporter of Seasonale when it first came out, but said he would give me 4 free packets of my Loestrin along with my prescription to allow me to do the Seasonale method. So, I start on a Sunday, continue for 12 weeks which I'll go through 4 packets stopping on a Sat. I usually have my period by Tuesday and it's gone by Friday. No problems, no spotting, no weight gain. I've been doing this for 2 1/2 years. I've also noticed that my migranes aren't as frequent. Best thing I've ever done! It's so nice to go through the summer months and not have to worry about having my period. However, I do have a friend who tried the same thing and didn't work for her. Everyone's bodies are different.

It was because it was so new and the fact that I can do the same thing with the pill I was already taking. Anytime you chance pills you run a chance of having complications and major side effects. My gyno's nurse said she tried it and gained a lot of weight and always felt bloated. I figured....if's it's not broken, don't fix it. I was put on OTC-Lo one year and had major side effects and have to be taken off immediately. And I did check with my insurance company on the cost of Seasonale and they said that I would have to pay $150. That would cover the 12 weeks of pills, but by doing the math here....I pay $30 for a 3 months supply of my Loestrin FE 1.5/30 (generic) and my gyno gave me 4 free packets. I'm saving money and getting the same results and without the possible side effects of the Seasonale. Hope that helps!

I dont know what mircette is. If that makes you skip periods or what? I know i origionally got on b/c to reduce cramp pain as well. I started on estrostep fe and that really helped my cramps sure i had a period once a month but no spotting.

Im now on seasonale and have had that occasional breakthrough bleeding. i think i will be switching when i go in for my gyno appt. at the end of this month. But am still unsure of what to switch to. I dont have cramps with it so i will miss that.
