View Full Version : Gallbladder testing?

Hi everyone,
It's been a while since I've been around. Anyway, my docs still believe I have gastroparesis (which sucks) but my emptying scan came out negative so who knows! Anyway, it seems that after I eat, especially fatty food, I get a stabbing pain under my lower right rib cage. It is not very harsh, just a poking sensation. Could this mean there is something wrong with my GB?

What kind of tests would I have to check this out? I've heard of ultrasound and HIDA scan. Can someone describe these to me? I remember someone saying that the test made them nauseous and that makes me so nervous! I don't want to do it if it's gonna make me sick!

Hope everyone's doing well today,
Kristen

Krisdance83,
I have had both ultrasound and Hida Scan done. With ultrasound they just roll a small "paddle" like thing over your abdomen and it shows outlines of your gallbladder. Nothing too complicated. With a Hida scan they give you an IV and inject you with a radioactive dye and take pics with a catscan like machine (but its open at your head and feet) for about an hour. Then they inject you with CCK which causes your GB to contract and squeeze out the radioactive dye. That is how they measure how well your GB is functioning. The CCK part sometimes can make people nauseaus and bring on an "attack" if their GB is inflammed. When I had it done I was scared to death of vomitting....but it didn't happen  There is really nothing to worry about! The worst part is laying still for an hour and a half with nothing to do!
Good Luck!
Donna
