View Full Version : Taking pill over years, safe?

Question, I have been on the pill probably for about 6 years. Anyway, I am on Loestrin. Never had any problems. But I was curious, how long is it safe to stay on the pill at one time? I do not want to have problems trying to conceive later in life and just didn't know if birth control could make it harder to get pregnant if you were taking it for so long. Any one know?? Thanks so much! :D :D

Doctors say you don't have to take any sort of break from bc as it doesn't affect your chances of getting pregnant, some people would disagree however. It may take a while to get pregnant though after going off the pill because your body has to get into a reg cycle again.

Thanks for your response. I just thought maybe it would be better to let my body get back to normal for awhile. I'm only 20.

I have been on the pill since I was 20, Im 22 now and I have been told by my doctor that I shouldn't have any problems becoming preg in the future. I have to be on the pill for medical reasons. I wouldn't worry about too much about it affecting your fertility, you could always talk to your doc about this too.

Recent studies show that it's safe to use the pill for long periods of time. In fact, pill use over 12 years greatly reduces many cancer risks.

Most women who are fertially healthy get pregnant within 8 months of stopping the pill.
