I was just wondering if anyone ever got pg on the pill? Im on ortho tri cyclen lo. I went to the dr cause I have a bad cold and he put me on amoxicillin. He never told me that it could effect my bc pill. I was reading on other web sites that it can. Has anyone ever took amoxicillin and bc pills and got pregnant??

I haven't but I was always aware of the fact that anitbotics reduce the effectiveness of bc. It is important to use a back up method while on the anitbotic and a week after, you have to make sure the antibotic is out of your system. They should have also red flagged this and told you at the pharmacy when you went to pick up the antibotic, this was very careless on the part of the doctor. I would take a pregnancy test to be sure. Based on statistics, 1 out of 100 women, who take it perfectly, will get pregnant while using the pill. Although I wouldn't consider taking antibiotics "perfect use."

Some studies say that there is no interaction between antibiotics and birth control, but better safe than sorry. While it's not real wide spread, plenty of women have got pregnant while taking antibiotics.

As I've said before, don't rely on your doctor for drug information. They know very little about drugs, compared to a pharmacist.

my sister in law had her first while she was taking B/c. i dont think she was on medication. ive been on the pill for 7 years and ive had plenty of sinus infections and ive never had that problem. mind you when i feel that sick my DH cant get close enough to me for anything of that nature.LOL well i hope you get the answers your looking for and the results your wanting too!

my mother in law had both of her sons while on the pill, and she swears up and down that she took it correctly at all times. i'm thankful she had my husband though! there is a risk with all birth control, however slight.

My dr told me the younger and smaller you are the more likely you are to get preagnat while on antibotics and bc. I got preagnat at 16 w/my first son while on bc pills and taking medicine, i took my pills every day never missed one but would somtimes forget at take it until a few hour later than normal this happened maybe 3 times, but not around the time i became pregnat. I had my second son while on depo (not taking any medicines), so who knows?
