A few months ago I had a chest xray done because I had a swollen lymph node and they found scar tissue in my lungs. The doctor told me not to worry about it because it could be from medication I was taking for rheumatoid arthritis or chemicals I have inhaled. (By the way, I am 30 years old.) But last month I started having short sharp pain in my back lung. I had another xray today and will get the results on Friday. I am scared to death!! Is that a symptom of lung cancer?? I don't have a cough or any congestion. I know most people,I think, develop a cough. Please let me know if that is a symptom. The craziest thing is that I lay in bed everynight thinking of my 7&10 year old and how I am gonna stop smoking but in the morning I am right back at it. I really tick my self off! Please help if you can offer any answers. thanks!

My dad had similar pain in his back, under his shoulder blade. After being on Oxicotin, he decided to go to a chiropractor who discover his back was out of alignment.
I hope you test goes well. You might want to consider a chiropractor.
Good luck!!

My sister has lung cancer and her only symptom was a pain in her back. Her tumor did not show up on her first two chest x-rays. She had an MRI of her spine and they told her it was a bulging disc and that she should live with the pain. This caused a big delay in her diagnosis. It took 9 mos. to properly diagnose this cancer because the neurosurgeon did not listen to her pain. It finally showed up on her 3rd chest x-ray. You should demand a chest CTscan.

My father was diagnosed with lung cancer back in May. He did not expierience any back pain until just last month (which is 8 months after diagnosis) Dont worry yourself, get it checked out before worrying. Worrying only causes ulcers. You dont want that headache too!! Smile and keep your head up!!

Thank You all for your support! Sorry it took so long to get back to you all but I haven't been on the computer much.
I went and had another xray done on my lungs and they said it was okay. They didn't even mention the scar tissue. Although I know that scar tissue doesn't go away. I will go back in around March and have another. I still have the pain in my back lung but (I'm so crazy) am still smoking. My 7 & 10 year olds bug me all the time. My 10 year old son told me all he wanted for xmas was for me to stop smoking. I am going to try very hard tommorow.
Anyways, thank you all again!! Melissa

Babs,
My father is a very strong man, I admire him very much. This has been a very hard year for him. He has been through 35 treatments of radiation and 8 chemos. His results of his catscan came back last week. It showed that the cells of the tumor on his lung are just about gone but now have traveled to the brain. Now he has to go through 3 weeks of radiation to the brain and then get a PET scan to see where he stands. Yet, believe it or not through out all of this, he has still gone hanging out with his friends and never missed one weekend of flea markets and garage sales. We call him hercules at home!!! Thanks for your reply,
Pukkalina

Sissy,
I am 29 with stage iv lung cancer. I smoked up until a week before I was diagnosed. The doctors said I didnt smoke enough for it to have caused the lung cancer, but it sure didnt help things. I was diagnosed when I was 27. You are never too young, and with as much junk that we have in our air now you are nuts to keep smoking! I know it is hard, but think about how hard it would be to lose a parent at your kids age. Just do it Sissy!! Your strong, I have faith in you! Dont think about it and stress about it, just quit, its that easy if YOU make it. Lung cancer kills the most people of all the cancers. It hurts and is scary to not be able to breathe. Just imagine yourself sufficating everytime you light one up. It gets so bad that I cant even go to certain restaurants that allow smoking because I have breathing problems all night. I tried going to the Outback last night with my husband for dinner. I have not left the house in about two months and was so excited to get out. They sat us in nonsmoking, but the smoke from the smoking section was so thick it came over to our side. I couldnt eat my dinner and was up, sick all night. Smoking DOES cause cancer, there is no question about it. Why do you want to take that risk that you just might beat the odds and not get it? Come on Sissy! You can do it! I know you can!! Take care of yourself, stay strong! Michele

I know you are asbolutely right Michele! I have not bought a pack of cigarettes in 2 weeks but have had a couple of my brothers when he has come to visit. I do feel 100% better. A couple in 2 weeks is so much better than a pack a day like I use to smoke. There are certain days that are harder than others but I am trying my damnest! As far as restaurants go, I live in California and it is against the law to smoke in ANY public building(restaurants, bars, employment,etc.). They are even trying to pass a law where you should not be able to smoke within so many feet of a public building. I think it is great even though I am (was) a smoker.
I have an appt. Monday to get my third x-ray on my chest and I hope nothing has changed. Thanks for your opinion, I really do appreciate it. You tell it like it is! Sissy
