Hi There folks:

I've just surfed over from the thryoid board. I have a question for ya.

I had thryroid removed and was severe hypo T for a long time...due to mess ups with docs. Finally have the bloodwork looking good for the thryoid replacement part...but something is odd.

Now...I get back results that other hormones are whacked. Was not fasting before the draw.

Testosterone total 57 (20-76)
Testosterone free 1 (1-21)
Testosterone biloavialable 1 (3-29)

Dhea Sulfate 61 (52-400)

Sex binding globulin 409 (17-120)

Any insights here? How do I get my sex binding globulin to LET go of my hormones so my body can use them?

I'm very lethargic and ache all over. Thanks a million for entertaining my thread!

Warmest Regards,

~S:)

What were the estrogen results? E1, E2, E3?
Did they test other hormones?
What about LH , FSH?

Are you taking Estrogen treatment or BC pills?

Thank you both for answering...and posting thoughtful questions:)

I was taking birth control pills. I stopped just after I got those results I posted. Yes...just a little freaked!

I didn't get the other hormones tested yet. I'm working on it. So far I have as script for Progesterone and Estrogen. I'm waiting till day 17 of my cycle to get the progesterone taken.

The doc was testing around for the reason for my awful acne....and that's when I saw those odd results...which should mean NO acne. That was even more perpelexing!:)

Thanks a million for your insights.:)

Hi folks:

Its me again. I left a note here but I guess it got overlooked.:(

I was taking birth control pills....do birth control pills hang up the sex globulin like that always, or is it just sometimes.

Does this mean one should not take birth control pills?

~Thanks

My understanding is that all birth control pills increase SHBG, but pills like Yasmin, Desogen, and Ortho Tri-Cyclen do it the most. Whether that is what is causing your problem I don't know...

Thanks bordergirl! From what I've read recently you are absolutely right!:) Birth control pills...have an anti-andorgenic effect and have the shbg snags the sex hormones. Wow...a lot to learn!:)

When it comes to hormones many doctors are just guessing.
Female hormones have had better research than male hormones, even though both are present in both sexes. They just have different levels as normal.

I think that many women that take BC pills get overloaded with estrogen & have other hormone problems since most doctors never test for both male & female hormones.

The female-male hormone ratio gets out of balance & cause problems.
