Just wanted to know if anyone has tried or currently taking buspar. Is it a good drug or a bad one? My doc give me a prescription for it but I am afraid of taking medications. I only take xanax on rare occasions if I have a panic attack that lasts more than 30 minutes because I scared of taking the medicine but I need help with my anxiety now.
Any feedback??
Thanks!

Well, I was on it for 6+ weeks. did not do a damn thing. And I personally have not met one person that it helped with their anxiety. My doc says it hardly ever works. But when it does, it works good for those few people.
Not what you want to hear probably but, just so you know. But try it anyhow! Maybe you're the small percentage.
Personally, I think the manufacturer pulled some sneaky moves just to market it.

Im in desparate need for something for anxiety and neither my primary care nor my phsyc want to give me anything because of the potential for addiction. I was on vistaril and buspar but neither did anythig for me.

I take it 15 mg a day twice a day for over a year now. Worked great but I am starting to think it's not now?? Had terrible side effects on Zoloft and Elavil so I am terrified to try something new?

Buspar worked great for me for about a year - then it seemed to slack off and I had to change. Go ahead and start on it - it's a very good NON addictive medication and even if it only works for a while - that may be enough for you. I liked it a lot better than most others I've tried because it didn't leave me feeling weird or anything.

Compton, what med did you switch to? I have reached that point where I am wondering if it is working. I take 15 mg twice a day. Makes me somewhat lightheaded and for some reason makes me have to go pee constantly. Much Better than Zoloft that made me jump out of my skin. I need to do some research as I go to the Dr. in two weeks and want to get on another med.

I'm not just "all warm and fuzzy" about any of the meds I've taken. They all seem to have unwanted side effects. Paxil was okay. I absolutely hated Lexapro - made me see stars and I had my only migraine headaches while taking it. I'm still looking for that miracle cure for anxiety....so far haven't found it.

Oh - I also meant to mention that I too am afraid to take meds. I carry xanax in my purse but haven't taken one in over a year. I'm holding out for a non-medicinal cure... I live in a small community with no real phsychotherapy available - so I'm just trying different relaxation techniques, etc... I plan to cherish EVERY feel-good moment again!!

well from what I can tell Buspar might not be a bad thing for me to try. I have been doing all the relaxation techniques I can think of but still continue to have weird problems.
I only want something that will help me short term. If I can stop being anxious for a while then maybe the symptoms I have will go away so I can really believe it is anxiety and not some disease like MS! Haha - I swear anxiety is the worst :) I hate being scared of taking medicine.... you would think we would want to try anything that might make us feel better!

Sounds like buspar is a really good fit for you right now. If that doesn't work - my suggestion would be to take xanax as needed. You can take a half a pill when anxiety is strong and it will relax you. You have to have your stress somewhat under control to do this - because you are not taking anything daily. Hopefully the buspar will work for you.

I think i can handle dizziness as a side effect - Its not good to go through the dizziness though without any relief -sorry!
