View Full Version : Insulin injection and Vertigo

...I'm doing a little research and I was curious if any of the type 1 diabetics here have ever had a vertigo attack(spinning sensation) after you injected your insulin, perhaps when you may have injected too much.
...I am hyperinsulinemic and I am thinking that it could be the high levels of insulin that may have triggered some of my vertigo attacks in the past.
Thanks for your help.
Rick

Rick, Am pretty ignorant about this stuff. Have a son who was diagnosed with Type I Diabetes last January (2004). But was wondering why you would use insulin, if you are what you have called hyperinsulinemic? I haven't heard of that, but it sounds like someone who has too MUCH insulin. Why, then, would you need to take more? Thanks! ~ Tracy

I don't take insulin, but I'm thinking that if I get vertigo attacks when my natural insulin goes high, then a type 1 diabetic might also get vertigo if they inject too much. It would happen almost instantly and then they would probably get hypoglycemic. But it would reaffirm that I'm on the right trail.
Thanks,

Rick,

Heart palpitations, confusion, vertigo and perspiration are all symptoms of hypoglycemia. But, in my experience, vertigo doesn't occur soon after insulin is injected. It manifests when the blood sugar level drops below a certain threshold. Which would usually be more than an hour after a rapid-action insulin shot. I speaking from my personal experience. But I suspect that most T1s would agree with me.

Cheers,

Mark

Thanks, Mark,
...It's the vertigo of the type you describe that led me to the discovery that my vertigo was from a carbohydrate metabolism disorder. I used to get them anytime I went over 4 hours without eating. I also got them within 15 minutes of eating which I suspected was from an allergy to gluten. These attacks, while right after eating gluten, were also when that was the only thing that was eaten. Like a big oatmeal cookie or a big breakfast bisquit. So this would also tend to lead toward a hyperinsulinemia scenario also for us with insulin resistance. I was thinking that this might be similar to an insulin Overdosage in T1's even though the high level would be temporary and would soon turn into a hypoglycemic situation. In type 2, the insulin levels would remain high until the fod was completely digested or at least it would seem so. I figured this question was a long shot but thanks for the info on hypoglycemia and vertigo. It's hard for people with inner ear disorders to believe that their vertigo attacks can be caused by other disorders than their particular disorder. A lot of people with Inner ear disorders are helped with a low sodium diet and diuretic and are hesitant to accept that as they grow older, a metabolic disorder can cause the same symptoms.
Thanks,
rick
