My 11 month ols son is having surgery on Friday to fix strabismus. I have a few questions if anyone could help me out...
First of all, He is scheduled for a "day surgery". Is that okay? I would think he should atleast stay the night to make sure everything is okay or is that the standard?
Second of all, what can I expect when I see him for the first time after the surgery? What will his eyes look like?
Thirdly, His Dr. said he's going to take 8mm of muscle off each eye? Isn't that a bit much??
Fouth, Is this surgery necessary? How will the "double vision" affect him? Will he have headaches? I'd hate for him to be in ANY kind of pain as he's only 11 months old and certianly couldn't tell me if he were to be having headaches!
Fifth, This surgery is for strabismus, in the first place I was told he had Amblyopia and was using the patches. They are not the same thing right? What is the difference and is he going to continue to need the patching?
Umm, what else.... Is there anyone out there who has a baby go in to this surgery and how was your experience?
TIA!!

No offense, but you may want to ask the Dr. everything you asked here. They can probably give you the best answers, especially if you are very concerned, which you seem to be :)

Good luck!

Noobie,

Just wanted to know how things are going. I wish i would have found this post earlier. Our daughter had Strabismus surgery for exotropia on April 5. Things were very scary seeing her after surgery. She is 2 years and 3 months old. I do not know if she was ever in much pain. Her eye unfortuntely is starting to dirft our again. She was cross eyed a little to begin with on purpose to account for the exotrpia drift. We just pray that things do not continue to dirft out. we may be back to where we started over a year ago. Please keep in touch.
