Sponsor cs1992 03-01-2005, 07:00 PM They are my favorite machines b/c of their low impact and high calorie burning abillity. I used to favor the stairmaster until ellipticals came along. shdwlark 03-06-2005, 02:45 PM Is this for home use or are you looking at a choice for the gym? If you have a large enough gym you will have several options. The normal eliptical which has upper and lower body utilization. This one is great for burning the most number of calories. Then there is the eliptical trainer which has the leg movements of the normal eliptical, it just doesn't have the upper arm movement. This is GREAT to focus the burn and toneing of the muscles on the legs. For home I would go with a normal eliptical that supports upper and lower body action. If you can afford it do not go cheap. There are many options out there that work off of shocks and such. But I would look for a higherend one that will give a better fluid movement of the body. Best of Luck! AlliethePallie 03-07-2005, 01:22 AM The eliptical is by far and away my favorite cardio machine. I have one at home and very recently bought one for my business for myself and my staff to use. I love the fact that it has no impact as I have bad knees and find it's the best pump-me-up machine I have found. It doesn't have the boring quality of a treadmill and you need more effort than a bike. A stepper never was an option for me because of my knees so really, this is the best. (And my legs look spankin'!) Try it, you'll love it. DonutsNCoffee 03-07-2005, 11:55 AM The elliptical is my favorite too. I used to use the bike, but it hurts to sit on the seat for too long. Then I started using a treadmill for the longest time and that eventually gave me shin splints and knee problems. The elliptical is deal. It works both your upper body and lower body. You're forced to stand instead of sit on a seat. You can go in reverse. You can adjust the resistance. You can squat down. It's great on the knees. The resistance helps you preserve muscle. It's quiet. There's no motor and no deck to grease. Ever since I started using the elliptical, I've been getting compliments on my glutes. Just don't be cheap about it. I paid $2500 for mine and it was worth it. I use it everday and really get my money's worth. |
