Hey guys, I've been working on getting cut and gaining muscle, but i do love to eat at night, for some reason I find myself binging on sweets such as reese piecies and stuff like that. Are cashew nuts a good way to go to cut down on the sugar and carbs and a quick way to pick up protein??? I'm already a vey slim person, I'm just trying to get more definition. cashews good or bad???

They're ... ok. Nutritionally they're good, but like all nuts they are very high in fat, so they are very high in calories. Not the best to gorge on when cutting, as just a 1/4 cup has 314 calories. Try sugar free Jello, jerkey, a diet soda, 1/2 cup of frozen blueberries... anything to get a little satisfaction without killing your good diet deeds for the day.

I'll let you in my my dirty little secret for that sweet tooth... if you promise not to broadcast it all over the Internet on some message board...
Fat Free Whipped Topping (i.e. Cool Whip).
I know it's loaded with all that stuff you are NOT supposed to eat: High Fructose Corn Syrup, Dextrose, Partially Hydrogenated Palm Kernel Oil, Potato Starch, etc. But what the hell... it's not like I'm eating the whole tub.
Look at the numbers: Two tablespoons has only 20 calories and no fat.
You can keep it in the freezer and eat it like ice cream, or you can mix it with sugar free Jello and have a sweet little treat with no guilt at all.
Just don't tell anybody.

Phillydude- Another good one is to freeze vanilla fat free yogurt (like the 6oz dannon light n fit ones) and eat that instead of ice cream at night- it doesnt melt like ice cream so it takes longer to eat.. so you enjoy it longer. Only thing is that it can soemtimes freezerburn easily so keep it in the door and not in the freezer part.

Cashews are OK but Walnuts or Almonds would be a better alternative in the nut department.

I agree that walnuts or almonds are better. Walnuts especially because they contain omega 3 fatty acids. They are high in calories and fat. Thus, limit to about an ounce a day.
To snack - stick to fruits and veges. I find that when I am hungry and apple is great, or an entire bag of baby carrots or a bage of edamame. Eat foods that are rich in nutrients. I totally advise against eating junk like diet soda, cool whip, etc.

Absolutely... I advise the same. I am realistic, however, in that sometimes I'm going to WANT something other than water to drink, and sometimes I am going to WANT something sweet to eat. Where's the fun in life if you can't give yourself the little things that make you happy?
So I drink a diet soda once in a while... heck, I have even been known to mix in a little bourbon in with that diet soda. And I have two tablespoons of fat free cool whip once in a while... heck, I've been known to mix in a banana and some sugar free jello.
If having a diet soda and a little cool whip are the worst transgressions of my diet over the course of a week, I can live with that. Would I recommend it as a steady source of "nutrition" for anyone? Absolutely not.
Today was my son's 6th birthday. Did I have a piece of cake with him? You bet I did. And it was good. It's all about making choices... and if 99% of them are good choices, the 1% that aren't the best ones won't kill you.

Peanuts have about 200 calories per 1/4 cup. They're healthy though, so moderation is the key.
